Hi,
I have a question about the BRDM-2UM from Trumpeter. The model has the very early engine deck. So I searched in the internet for photos of such an vehicle and found just pictures of vehicles with the intermediate engine deck. So now I'm confused does this version of an BRDM-2UM with the early engine deck exist. Maybe someone could help me out of my confusion. Thanks.
Jochen

Jochen,
Yes the early version deck did exist, most of everything I can find on any of the early version was they were mostly used by the russians and polish. A few did find their way into other countries, but not many. I could be wrong on that, but most of the info I can dig up leads me to beleive this. Maybe some of our russian friends can give better details.

Thanks for the answer. Do you have an photo of an polish BRDM-2u or UM version? It seems logic that when the polish army get the early BRDM-2 that their command vehicles were from the same production batch. But my confusion is still there and my suspicion about the trumpeter kit grows. There are pictures of BRDM-2U with the mid. production type engine deck so i wonder why should the succecor have the early one? The other thing the ACE kit in 1/72 has also the mid. production type engine deck. For me small inaccuracies are not so tragic to me, but a wrong engine deck hmm...
now at the end a link where the discussed detail is visible. It's an SPW-40P2UM but that's only the NVA designation. Also with pictures of the interior which is uncomplete with the trumpeter kit.
