Hey guys,
Just a quick question about the Legend T-55AM2B conversion kit. What are my options for markings? Kind of want to do it up as an East German one.
Thanks.

Awesome choice. You can have it beside a 1/35 Grenztrabi.

I don't think any Legend kits come with markings. Also, I'm pretty sure you can only build it as East German, unless someone else had the AM2B that I'm not aware of.

Yes, have the kit in my hands and it looks pretty nice.
So I guess it's East German then!

Erik,
the Czechs and the Poles were the first to have the AM2B in their arsenal. If I'm correct, this version was developed by the Czechs themselves on the Russian AM2 basis. They introduced a different laser rangefinder and fire control and other minor differences of which of course their own engine deck.
The East-German AM2B came from Czech stocks if memory serves and the Germans made some further modifications too.
To go back to the initial question, the Legend set is indeed more looking like a German model than a Czech one.
@ Comrade MP, could you share some pictures of the content or the instructions to let's see if it can build into another country?

I should have specified, the Legend kit I believe represents an East German specific mod with the turret storage box closer to the brow armor on left side of the tank if I remember correctly.

Hi;
Finland also had a few am2bs, The Kladivo( Hammer ) was first made by Poland. The T-55am2 was offered too other countrys that used the T-55. The Czecs, T-55s were the Most Colorful. Different versions on the same basis were in the Fire Controls and in there Gun Stablizer & Target Laying systems. Some of the an2bs, had different Lazer Range Finders. The Soviet Marines also used T-55s with a Lazer made by them. CHEERS; MIKE.

Mike, to my knowledge the Kladivo is a Czech home-made version not a Polish one. It features a different sight (1K13) which enables the firing of the Bastion AT missile.

Sure thing, after I get home later today.
The instructions are a bit different from what I'm used to, though it is in color using pictures of an actual model which is nice.

Very interested to see this project...I've also got a few East German projects in the works. If you need NVA DDR markings, I've found a nice set by Peddinghaus of NVA emblems and tactical markings. Got my set on eBay a week or so ago.
Also found some at the TL-Modelbau site. That have a couple of very nice NVA/Grenztruppen sets:
http://www.tl-modellbau.de/en/TL-Decals/TL-Decals-1-35/Military/Int-Armed-forces/NVA-und-Grenztruppen-1-35.html
and
http://www.tl-modellbau.de/en/TL-Decals/TL-Decals-1-35/Military/Int-Armed-forces/NVA-Decalbogen-1-35.html
Grabbed one to use on a Trumpeter UAZ-469 that I'm doing up as a Grenztruppe vehicle. Couldn't believe how quickly my order arrived: 5 days from Germany to New York State!

Slightly OT, but I've been looking high and low for a 1/35 Trabi Kübel. Found a German site that had one someone had done from a resin kit, but no ordering or contact info was available. Had to settle for the Trumpeter UAZ-469 for a Berlin wall dio I'm working on.

I had four of the Grenztrabi kits - they're vacuforn, but probably the easiest vacuforn I've ever done. Sold two built ones for a customer, have two left. I could probably make you a nice deal for one. I want to keep the other one for myself for when I get back into building.
By the way, I have a photo I took of a Uaz in Berlin, with Soviet parade markings. I saw a lot more of the Grenztrabis though, as I'm sure it did not qualify as a tactical vehicle. As you know, the NVA were notto have tactical vehicles within Berlin proper.

About the Legend Conversion is it really only for East German ?
I found some picture of a T-55 in Somalia in may 2012 and for me it looks like a T-55AM2B
Can i do something with the Legend Conversion to build it or should i throw it trough the windows and take out plasticard??

Were did you find this information? Finland had upgraded T-55's called T-55M, but they were far from AM2B standards.
