Hello,
I got a question.
I am currently building my second tamiya IS-2. My aim is it to build this one with another nose. I saw on several photos that the IS-2 had a more soft looking nose and a sharp looking nose (http://www.missing-lynx.com/articles/russia/amtis/is2m5.jpg).
My question is now, if you have any suggestion how to re-model this nose on the Tamiya IS-2??
Thanks for help,
besz wishes,
moritz

Early JS 2s ( Cyber Hobby / Dragon ) had a stepped nose with a driver's visor . The Tamiya kit is the late pattern with a cast nose and a view slit for the driver .A nose job is needed . I think a resin nose is avalible but I can't remember which AM company makes it . Or you could try and find a Dragon kit to cut up .

Hello,
thanks for your advice.
Sorry, I think I was not clear about my definition for hard and soft edge. Of the late IS-2 there a two nose style. One which is produced by Tamiya represents more a soft edged nose:( http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/tamiya/tam35289d02.htm ) Soft edged because the edges are round at the bow compared to a hard edged bow: ( http://www.missing-lynx.com/articles/russia/amtis/is2m5.jpg )
Best wishes

Hello,
the most photos which I found were from Concord 7012.
In the www I found for example this one. Referring to the markings it is a JS-2 from the 4th polish tank regiment with a sharp nose: (first one at the top of the page)
http://www.militaryimages.net/forums/showthread.php?p=22401
from another unit here:

and here a soft nose:

I have this. It's for the ISU but you could modify it for the JS. http://www.mrmodellbau.com/_shop/product_info.php?info=p627_MR---35371--welded-front-section-Isu-152---ISU-122-----TAMIYA-.html

Hello Moritz!
The answer is very simple. Rounded nose part is cast (UZTM produced tanks), sharp nose is welded (ChTZ vehicles).
The link linkname See the top left corner, lower row. Left scheme is casting, right one - welding (as of summer 1944).
