Hello,
I am not that familiar with Russian WW2 SP's but have picked
up a few 1/35 models to eventually build to display along side some German ones I have.
I picked up a SU-85 (Tamiya), SU-122 (Tamiya), and an ISU-152 (Italeri). I am looking for a SU-100 and just have not found a good deal yet.
However I recently discovered that there is an ISU-122 and SU-152.
I read that the SU-122 and SU-152 were the first models and that the ISU-122 and ISU-152 came later.
My question is was there visable differences? If so, what are they?
Thanks for any guidance and advice.

the SU-122 was a 122mm gun mounted on a T34 chassis and the SU-152 was a 152mm gun mounted on a kv1 tank hull with a fixed superstructure like that on the JSU-122 and the JSU-152 the JSU-122/JSU-152 were both based on the JS-1/JS-2 tank I hope that clears everything up for you

Zvezda make an Su-100 if you want an affordable one. Dragon's 1/35 Su-85M can also be built as an Su-100.

For su-100, Zvezda or Dragon,
su-152, Bronco and Trumpeter just released a few versions, for the isu-152 the nest choice is Tamyia.

Guys summed it up nicely.
For the SU-100 I'd have to really recommend the Dragon offering. I've been building mine (SU-85M/SU-100 Premium Edition) and it's quite fantastic.
Also built the Trumpeter SU-152, really nice kit. Have to agree on the Tamiya ISU-152. Built it and it's a really nice kit.
I'll see if I can get up some in progress pics for you to take a look at.
Now, I wish dragon would take a crack at the SU-85. The Tamiya one is nice (built one), but wish it was as nicely detailed as the Dragon SU's out of the box.

Here you can see the main differences,
...
Su 152 - was based on the KV tank chassis
John, this is actually ISU-152 as well.
Here is Su-152. It was based on KV-1S chassis which was different from "regular" KV-1. The superstructure of SU-152 was different than the one of ISU also:

Dragon do the SU-85, SU-85M, and SU-100. Some boxings, I do not fully recall which ones, have parts in them for all 3 versions. Maybe the new premium kit?
ISU-152 - Tamiya's is the best, but the orange boxing from DML is pretty good, and a LOT cheaper. The indi links in it can be put together without glue, but they are not truly workable, just tight fitting.
SU-152 - Bronco and Trumpeter each have one out. I recommend the Trumpeter ones unless you desire an interior. Cheaper too.
SU-122 - I would recommend using the relevant pieces from the Tamiya kit and use them on the DML SU-85.
Italeri/Zvezda/Eastern Express kits can also be found of some of the above.

Actually, DML just has the SU-85M/SU-100. I did tons of searching. Looks like i'll have to get a PE update set if I go build another SU-85.

Dragon don't do a straight SU-85. I don't think with the SU-85M even the premium one, you can do a SU-100 with the parts in the box. You can however buy an aftermarket 100mm gun and do an early SU-100 with rounded front fenders. Dragon SU-85M kits have rounded front fenders, Dragon SU-100s have "square" front fenders.

Christophe

Well I was wrong, the SU-85M Premium gives you the 100mm gun in plastic as an option, whereas a 85mm is also included in metal, hence the "2 in 1" mention on the box. and both mantlets and front fender types are included.

Christophe

Spence at the moment i'm working on the SU series myself.
Mini Arts SU-76
It has its problems but is the best kit of what's out there.
DML 85/100 2 in 1 kit
SU-100
Nice kit with both part options for 85mm or the 100mm
Tamiya SU-122
It's one of their motorized kits without the running gear. For show you've got holes to fill that mount the motor and such but I don't show so I skipped that work.
Bronco SU-152
Very nice kit with workable tracks that are a bonus.
Tamiya ISU-152
Another nice kit but this one is non-motorized,no holes to fill.
DML ISU-122s
This one is next on the to do list.
Cheers

It should also have both rear casement walls...one for the split hatch, one for the single hatch...
