T-64B mod. 1984. On Trumpeter/HobbyBoss fan page on Facebook, appeared this box art for the upcoming new T-64. I find this version particularly attractive as it has the anti-radiation coating above the crew compartment. And as one may just imagine, two days ago I have received the last details needed for the SP Designs conversion.

Two versions are released:
T-64A Mod.1972
T-64B Mod.1975
From these versions box arts appeared on this FB site:
T-64B Mod.1981
T-64B Mod.1984 w/anti radiation layer
T-64A w/ ERA
A handmaster for a T-64BV from a Trumpeter source was shown here a few years ago without side skirt ERA mounted.
This means, at least six versions are planned. For a very early T-64 Trumpeter would have to redesign the turret and the hull rear (= won´t ever happen).

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between t-64B mod.1975 and mod.1981? I noticed the different smoke grenade launcher arrangement, is there anything else?

The Mod.1975 did not have any smoke grenade launchers.

Just from the pictures; the glacis is different as is the stowage on the turret.

Are you asking what tanks the Soviets used in Afghanistan? They only used T-62's. Mainly the M model after 1984. Don't let anyone tell you there were T-64's or T-72's there, there weren't. There's no evidence to support that claim.
Back on topic, when can we expect a BV? I would assume soon, since the BV is based on the late B correct?

Hi;
The T-64 W/ERA is the BV, also the T-64 can be found with the other ERA Mks; made by the other Zavods. Also note that the Pic's shown are of the Later Mks.
As Erik said earlier, there were mainly T-62s, but there were also T-55s. A Good source of info can be found if you can get your hands on Concords Book on the Soviet Invasion of Afganistan.

Just being nit-picky...but the kit that Trumpeter has shown is a T-64AV not a BV. The AV has the additional gunners site on the turret and the BV doesn't but can have the optional AT-8 Cobra gun launched ATGM box in the same place.

It is truely a T-64A w/ERA. or we can call it T64A mod1985 w/ERA. in 1985 all of those T64A and B began to add ERA and type A was upgraded to the level of B...not means...it is a Type B. the most important thing is ...this type A with ERA doesn't have capacity to launch the missille. so.....sorry.. it is a type A. not B..

Hi;
The "B" in the Identifier in Soviet Terms is the Ident for
ERA !! When the Soviet Union started adding ERA there Tanks were given the BV at the end. So T-64bv, now you can see the Other Mks; of T-64s also with ERA attached. The Mk; that you are refering to Fires the Songster 115mm Missile.

Not quite, the V is the identifier for ERA equipped tanks

That's not correct. This quote from the "Soviet/Russian Armor and Artillery Design Practices" book sums it up. It comes from the section on the T-72B with ERA ,"Unlike the T-64B or T-80B tanks, which usually have the suffix "V"(vzryvnoi=explosive) added,such as the T-64BV, to indicate Konkat ERA..." "V" is usually the designator for a tank with ERA like T-62MV, T-64BV etc. The "V" can be added to any letter designation, not just the "B".

Well, technically, you're both right as "V" is written "B" in Cyrillic (e.g. T-80БB)

Yes, I completely agree with this too. The best reference on the T-64 is the excellent Russian language book by Sayenko and Chobitok and the designations of AV or 'model 85' are for this version. There seem to be many more photos around of the BV, hence it's probably what a lot of people will initially think this is.

T-64A MOD1981 and T-64B MOD1975 have already hit the market! Are there any news about T-64A w/ERA and T-64BV?

Waiting to make sure we all buy the first three released and THEN, they'll release them
