Hi Guys,
I recently purchased the T-62 mod 72 with era from trumpeter and i wondered if in the afghan-soviet war ERA armour was used on T-62. If not is there any conflict it the configuration has been used?
Cheers,
Luca

To the best of my knowledge, the 62MV served mainly as a reserve tank and never saw any combat. I'm sure the more knowledgeable guys can confirm or deny this haha.

Hi;
The Answer is No, the only place that it mite have been used is Checniya or maybe the Middle East. The use of Era by the Soviets
can be seen on just about everything they have, the T-72 is the Tank that has seen the Most Action with the ERA mounted. The soviets Fell in Love with ERA after the 82 fighting in Lebanon
between Syria & Israel, they were so engrossed that they even used it in Multi layers. The Brick form has given way too more advanced forms of ERA, such as Kontact, and Cactus. Now everybody uses it in one form or another. CHEERS; MIKE.

I answer your question, no. The T-62MV was used in limited numbers by the soviets, most are either in the scrapyard or held in reserve for future use. There really hasn't been a big need to produce the T-62MV since there is a large stock of the T-62M1's. None were ever used in Chechnya as it was mostly a stomping ground for the T-72's and T-62M1's. The only country right now that is using it is Syria.

Hi;
Sorry but your wrong, the T-62 W/era was used and was also used in Georgia. If you look on the World Wide Web for both Conflitcs
there are Pic's of T-62s W/era and they saw a lot of the Fighting. I have lots of Pic's in my Library showing Both the 1st & 2nd Checniya and Georgia.

I'm not disputing your claim, but I have a lot of pics of 62's in Georgia and none of them have ERA. Just the standard M addon armor and some with slat. Can you post a couple of the pics you have? If the MV was used in Georigia. I may have to get the kit now haha.

Hi;
Try T-62bv, Soviet Designators for ERA is Known BV !
Also the Early Brick style of the ERA was the only Mk; seen in most of the Conflitcs. Even the T-80 has been used with the Early Brick pattern ERA.

Hello,
i´m not able to find ANY pics of T-62 with ERA used in Osetia 2008. I even don´t have seen pics of T-62 with ERA in Syria. I only seen T-55 with ERA in Syria. Please post some pics, as I´m most interested.
Thanks in advance,
Andreas

I don't want to argue semantics, but the T-62M with ERA is called the T-62MV by the Russians, simply an M model with ERA(the V is the first letter for the Russian word for explosive). This system holds true for the T-64BV and T-80BV as well, but not the T-72B with ERA for whatever reason.

Sorry my mistake on syria using the T-62MV, it was Uzbekistan I was thinking of
But as far as it being used in any chechan wars or Georgia, I've still yet to see any photos of it there. You might be confusing it with the T-72AV.

The Russians do not really like to use their ERA as tanks are often used in conjunction with infantry in built up and urban areas where ERA going off would be really...bad.
ERA in Russia is known as EDZ - elementy dinamcheskoi zashchity. The V stands for vzryvnoi - explosive
T-62's are used wearing bar armor, tanks treads wrapped around the turret, or with Brow Armor (Ilych's eyebrows).
I have seen documentation of both T-72 with ERA and T-72BV, T-72SV, etc... Not sure why the T-72 is a bit different.
ERA bricks were "layered" only once, in 1989 when US Congressmen visited Lvov and the 24th "Iron" Guards MRD. There was a tank there with 3 layers of ERA bolted one over the other. Speculation is that it was deliberately done as disinformation to spook the West. It would not work, so do not try it at home.

I have book I bought in Russia on the Georgian conflict, none of the T-62 I've seen from that conflict have ERA, any Brow armor.
