Very cool to see the line continuing this quickly. I remember looking at the T-80U tooling at the AMPS show here in Atlanta and thinking they had it setup for this.

Curiously though this is 35003 - T-80U is 35001, wonder what 35002 is?

Don't get your hopes up, 35002 is the Tigr they announced around the same time as the 80U.

How about a new T-72 with ERA?

I'm sure they'll do that once they deplete all possibilities with the T-80 chassis. Don't forget these guys are a small company and probably don't have the cash to put out many different molds at once.

It'll happen about the time I make a heavy investment in Miniarm updates and conversions.... That new T-72B2 is calling me heavily!

If meng got some strategy, they are going to occupy the T-72 market as soon as possible, no reason not to release T-72 after such a heavy preparation& investment on T-90 tanks

well...that's just how I thought

If they felt like it was a worthwhile investment, Dragon, Tamiya or Zvezda, which have already produced 1/35th T-72s, could release an updated version before the newcomers had a chance to get theirs out. Including optional parts to allow modelers to build different versions of this tank would be a great idea - this has been done with other vehicles already.

Dragon sold their T-72 molds to Zvezda so I doubt they'll get back into the game anytime soon. Besides there's way too much to update on that old mold to make it worthwhile compared to the Tamiya. All Zvezda needs to do is fix the lower hull on their T-90 and produce a new upper hull and turret and bam you've got a T-72. Tamiya just needs to redo the glacias plate and make a new turret and then they're in back into the T-72 game as well.

... we dreamed of it when the Star made T-90, now we dream of exact whales of Menga, but resin kits always will be the most exact
at it technological accuracy is more, than in plastic

but most company just ignore T-72 as much as they can, so I just hope Meng would give us a T-72B sereis(based on early T-90)

though I'm not really in-love with T-90A, but I already ordered a T-90A to support meng, hope the T-90A sells well, then they may consider to give us a T-72 variant (which won't be a heavy investment)

I wonder why these companies have ignored the T-72, comparatively speaking? It's a much more important tank than some others that have gotten more attention, such as the T-64. Any thoughts?

yes, I too want to see the T-72 series, the cast turret is exigeant in plastic and it will be not exact model that will provide us with a lot of work and good sales of correcting sets in resin kits

Yes it will! Check out some of the pics and videos of Syrian T-72s - some of them have really taken a beating, and aftermarket sets to help modelers depict damage, like armored skirts partially torn off, ERA askew and various dented items, might be worth considering. I think some of us would appreciate some additional stowage and decal sets for this tank as well.

There's been a bit of talk about T-72s in other threads, with kits available such at the Dragon/Zvesda and Tamiya offerings, MOST modelers already have "a T-72" available. Yes, they're either incorrect or as is the case for Tamiya, a specific variant to one country.

But, there are DECENT T-72s on the market - for the CASUAL modeler. And we all need to remember that we are not casual modelers. So we are looking for something more, but as far as sales go, the model companies already see that base as covered (for the short term anyway). For almost all other subjects this wasn't the case, or the offering that was available (Tamiya T-62 for example) was a far worse starting point.

Now that we have all the other bases covered with new models for nearly every other Soviet/Russian MBT, I suspect we'll start to see a series of T-72s. The hull and running gear from the Meng T-90s - I THINK - will be a starting point on which they can build. Seems like at least SOME of the upper hull applies too (at least for later variants).

So as others have noted, hopefully we will see a T-72 family soon. Trust me I'd buy just about every version they'd do....

And, like I said, the moment I buy more of the Miniarm sets and sink $200+ into future T-72 projects, along will come the kits!
