I recently found some Trumpeter M4A1's and M4's w/ M203's that I got a while ago but forgot about. After receiving some M4's and some other accessories, found these. I decided to paint these quickly so I did this. I also did a M60 and a M249. Here's what I've did. Any opinions and/or tips?

I'm currently using these, including the accessories I just received, for a Dragon M1A1 AIM build.

They look good overall. I would not have them muddy (or rusty??), maybe a little dusty, but not much. Most weapons are kept clean and rust free or they do not operate correctly. His weapon is the one thing a Soldier will keep up with since his life may depend on it.

True.... About the Tan gun... I have seen many a gun painted in a camouflage type scheme. So I might keep like that.

Why not? Tan M203's used to be all the rage...

I agree with Gino on this. The weapons look dirty, not camouflaged. I would suggest spraying the dark gunmetal color, followed by a black wash and as a final touch perhaps picking up the raised details with drybrushing lighter gunmetal. Be sure not to drybrush the parts of the guns which are not made of metal.

If you want to do camouflaged weapons, by all means go for it. Unfortunately, these do look muddy to me.

Ok. I see your point here. But I've intended for the all-tan gun to be camouflaged like that, so I will be keeping that color. I will paint over the others later today (9/6).

Hi Mike,
I usually paint them satin black then dry brush with silver or gun-metal (Humbrol 53) and the paint the grips, stock (if the plastic one) sights etc flat black.

Cheers

For modern US weapons, I paint the entire piece NATO black. I then dry brush a very little aluminium over the raised metal parts (forward assists, edges of the sights, etc). Like Maki said - make sure you keep the plastic parts black.

Unless you're a sniper or a recon operator - I personally don't see the point in doing a como job on your weapon. But that's just me. Having said that, I would paint the entire rifle with Tamiya Buff, and the paint the waves/stripes in Tamiya Tan or Red Brown.
