Proud Pop here wanting to encourage my son to build more now. This was his first ever completed model. A Tamiya T-34/76 1942 version. If I remember correctly, he's already light years ahead of where I was at his age. Looks like I can let him build a few more like this and then graduate to more advanced kits really soon. There are things that are killing me not to fix but overall I think the kids got potential. Got to get him a good set of tracks for this thing though.

Wow! Nice work for a 1st model. Looks like he'll be ready to tackle a 500 piece Dragon kit really soon.

Keep up the good work!

Smokey you have every right to be proud of your son and your son should be very pleased with himself. Taking a good look around the model I can see that the spare track links and tarp rolls needs finishing up. The paint brush control around the wheels shows a steady hand and good eye, I can also see some nice weathering touches taking shape. All in all very nice work Little Smokey.

Outstanding..
I certainly had nothing like this going on at age 11..I didn't start having breakthroughs in my armor building until my teens and many many kits built with huge errors behind me. This is an outstanding effort and I take encouragement seeing the hobby taken up by a young man coming up.
Bravo! Drive on young soldier, drive on!

Excellent job. My first plane at 8yo wasn't as good at that by miles ;-)

Is this going to end up like going golfing with your dad??? hes welcomed to come along till he beats you?? LOL... Im kind of embarrassed, because your sons first kit looks better than my LAST kit I built, and I have been modelling for 30 years! Congrats!

Thanks for all the great comments and support. This kid of mine is truly an old soul trapped in a kids body. He has been soaking up every bit of WW2 history that he can and never ceases to amaze me.

I taught him a few basic techniques and the rest of his techniques he picked up by reading watching how-to videos online. I bought him a couple of more kits today since my local Hobbytown USA was having a 50% off sale on all armor kits. I actually bought quite a few and will let him decide which ones he wants next. Have a feeling it will be the Dragon SU-100. Will post more as he progresses.

Your son has definite potential! Unless you want him to start swearing at a young age, I'd recommend avoiding Dragon. If he's soaking up that much information, I really look forward to his next build. Always good to hear of a convert, from the next generation. Especially one as skilled as your son.

Your son did a great job on that T-34, he even made the awful Tamiya tracks look good. You must feel very proud!

Hey Lil Smokey! WOW wadda a nice job! Better than the one I recently tried too, and I haven't been 11yrs old in a looong time!

And you know what's really cool? You got a Dad who is encouraging you to get into what is a very fun and satisfying hobby.

Smokey, TY for sharing this, you must be truly proud and that is a beautiful feeling. You Win!

Sincerely, Dave
