Hi Guys,

I know pics of these tanks are limited, but I was wondering if there were pics of the tanks Cheetah, Argyle II, and Antoinette that someone may have? The Bison decal sheet has decals for these tanks, so I am thinking that maybe there might be pics of these tanks somewhere. I've done many searches on google and have come up empty.

Thanks
Brad

Antoinette was the name of an M-10 tank destroyer with 'C' Sqn, LdSH(RC) when they first arrived in Korea.

A quick Google search using "Cheetah Sherman Korea" as search words provides this image of Cheetah...

Thanks Jason, I guess I should have looked more closely to the M-10 on my Bison sheet. I totally disregarded it..I'll call it a senior moment I googled Cheetah and I got every hit you could think of except of a tank..Thanks for the pic.

It's a nice photo showing tread blocks, and a somewhat limited detail of the HVSS system. HVSS is horizontal volute spring suspension. Look at the cylinders on the top of the bogey wheel units - normal Shermans didn't have that...

Nothing abnormal in the image. The Canadian Shermans in Korea were the M4A3E8...with HVSS...except for an M4A3 dozer tank and an early version M32 ARV. They were all obtained from U.S. stock in Korea.

What is great about this shot is seeing the "ghost" of the U.S. star below the turret marking...a nice detail to include.
A couple of other interesting points. The bore brush assembled and ready to go, although I wonder if this was for static deployment only? This seems to be a fairly standard practice and seen in a few pictures.
The additional road wheel, funny but that roadwheel location changes almost from tank to tank, some on the turret, some on the hull, left side, right side...no rhyme or reason that I can see.
The front T-80 track it attached with some flat rectangular plates and bolt.
Note also the missing fender brackets.

Cool stuff,

P

The bore brush and gun staves assembled would be just for the static defensive position. I am sure the crews had a regular gun cleaning routine and didn't want to waste time.

Good pick on the faded star!

The spare road wheel placement may have been a combination of impromptu add-on armour and practicality until the extra track sections were added for additional protection. Placing the road wheel on the turret is fine...but not when you have to hump it up and down when using it...much better when it is mounted on the hull side.

I was thinking the brush would be only used like that in a fixed only..but then I can see guys getting lazy too...I've only seen them assembled like that in static position, watch now a picture will come out!
No kidding about the road wheel what a drag moving that around.
I'll try and post my stuff over on the DG this weekend...then all can thrash it.

Hey Guys,

For the .50 mg on the turret, did the barrel have the handle, or was it without?

TIA

Most images I've seen don't have the barrel changing handle attached...but that does not mean it wasn't used.

Guys,

I am building "Catherine" from "C" Squadron, but don't have a shot of her showing the right hand side of her. Could I assume (danger Will Robinson) that she would have had a spare road wheel like many of the other "C" Squadron tanks? If so, was there a special mounting bracket for it? Finally, was there a special mounting bracket for the spare tracks mounted on the final drive?

Thanks guys

I would say you would be accurate. The most famous image of Catherine was taken during the initial part of the deployment and the layout of all of the Squadron tanks was likely very similar.

Take a better look at the image I posted of Cheetah...you can easily see how the spare road wheel is attached.

As for the spare tracks take a look at this image of an M4A2E8 from the LdSH(RC) Historical Vehicle Troop marked up as Catherine. You can see how the tracks are simply held in place by two brackets. From the images of Catherine in Korea it looks like the same type of bracket.

How about posting some images of your build?

Thanks Jason. I already made a mistake and only added the rack on the left side for one Jerry can, and I just noticed that there looks like two there I'll see if I can take a few photos. The model is assembled and primed.

Nice work Brad. The casting numbers look great.

You'll have to remove that Rookie Armour Guy label pretty soon.
