I am building a T-64 1981 Trumpeter kit.
I am just wondering how to use the snorkels that come with the kit if i want it to be deployed in the snorkel hatch?
do you mate them together into one long tube then insert it on the snorkel hatch?

thanks!

Hi;

Yes that will do, and both halves can telescope even further than that. But you would have too scratch build the tube too make it longer. This would make your kit very interesting, and different than most Builders are willing too model.

GOOD LUCK; MIKE.

Thanks Ed and Mike for the ideas

I used the ref photos and figuring out how to install the tubes.
so far here is where am i with the build.

Im checking which tube goes with the snorkel hatch.

The tube A looks like it has the triangular base hinge that connects to the 2 hooks in the loader's hatch snorkel port.

See the 2 hooks:

Thanks guys!

I hope you didn't glue them yet ! If you look closely at the 2nd photo Eduard posted the tube with the 90 degree bend mounts on the rear of the engine deck, engine exhaust maybe ? It looks from your photos that Trumpeter molded it nested into the lower tube that mounts on the gunners hatch , the tube A as you call it with the base hinge that engages with the 2 hooks ( the t-64 uses an auto loader and as such the gunner and commander sit side by side ).
It looks like what you need to do is cut that bend off and mount it on a piece of tube the equivalent length as the kit part but smaller in diameter and mount it to the back of the engine back and you should be good to go.

Sean,
I managed to find my way on how to install the snorkels.
Thanks for your inputs and all the guys here who helped with the idea!

Here are some progress photos:

The lower tube was cut and i removed the curved area.
That part goes to the rear engine deck.

I then proceeded with the scratchbuilt snorkel brackets.
These were made from spare PE frames that came with the kit.

A little shaving, sanding and polishing are involved before making the snorkels ready for installment.

After that, the tubes were mated together and placed on their respective ports.

Now i need those butterfly screws for the snorkel clamps

Cheers![:::]

Don't forget to add the gun muzzle cover.

Hi there,

good job so far. Any reason why the snorkels are not equally long? Hard to see on the reference pics provided. But logically it doesn't make any sense... or am I missing something?

Hello Bonaparte, hmm thats a good question, i can doublecheck on that if they are equally long. the rear snorkels are 2 part i think. the lower tube (with the curved part) fits right inside the bigger snorkel's lower tube in the turret. will check on the length as well. it can be easy to adjust as this is just made from the kit's sprue cheers man!

Oliver thanks for the appreciation as well! cheers!:D

Very nice idea with the snorkel!

Do you know how long is the maximum length of the real snorkel?
