What is the correct color for Waffen SS Polizei vehicles? I have an ADGZ ready to be painted and all pics and references Iīve found so far says Panzer Grau. But, today I found at MIG:s site a color named: Waffen SS - Polizei Grün!
And the text says it was used on Waffen SS and Polizei light and second line vehicles. So, what would be the correct color for an ADGZ, late version?

While I couldn't find the polizie color in any of my RAL color tables I've seen references to it in other places. I believe it was only used in the thirties. Likely switching to 'panzergrau' like the rest of the SS and Heer when appropriate. Just as well, all my photos of the ADGZ are 'panzergrau'.
Are you working with the AMG kit? I'm planning on getting one in the next couple of weeks.

Hey Christopher!
Thanks for the reply. That was my thought aswell but the difference between panzergrau and green could be hard to tell in a b/w pic so i got uncertain when i saw the MIG paint.
Yes itīs the AMG kit, to love and hate. Fantastic looking vehicle but stock up on loads of filler and invest in replacement barrels before you go. But with a lot of time and effort the result is pretty good. They will certainly release an early version too since almost all the different details are included in this kit.

That's good to know.
Best photo of it. I think the blue color wouldn't be as light in such a bright photo.

Yes, thatīs the best pic of the late version I have also. But very hard to tell from that pic if the colour is panzergrau or green hence the dust, dirt and bright sunlight. Very hard to decide which way to go then but from an originality point of view the green would be more attractive and stick out from the grau community of German vehicles..

oh, that one I have missed, very tempting indeed.. Chains for the wheel could be a challenge though. Any reference to where and when the pic was taken?

According to a Russian caption I've found, this one may belonged to the 6th SS Division "Nord" which received 2 ADGZ for reconnaissance at the beginning of the operations on the Eastern front.
Here's another one that may have been used by the 4th SS Panzergrenadier Division on the Eastern front as well :

Wonderful pics as always Frenchy, thanks. The last one is of an early version but the more full covering "fresh" whitewash eliminates more or less the initial question regarding correct colour of the vehicle.
Yes PE wheelchains is probably the best way to go but then there is the question to find a pair that fits good enough. Wheelchains must sit very tight to work properly, at least the ones we use in the Swedish armed forces.

Just found another whitewashed ADGZ (late model I think ):
The one on the top left belonged to the SS Division "Prinz Eugen" in Croatia, in the winter of 1943.

guys, don't mix early and late versions. AMG is only late version vehicle.
As said here it is not a very good kit, but you can have OK model after some work.
See mine here.
http://roman-bizarre.blogspot.no/2013/04/portfolio-adgz.html
As for green colour - I have AMMO book and there are two models painted in green and panzergrau side by side. When converted into bw images they look nearly the same.

Thanks Roman. Iīve seen your build and itīs a very impressing work youīve done and I have used it as a reference building my own kit. Yes, the kit is very crude when mating upper and lower half, otherwise it is pretty decent in my opinion.
What made you pick the Grau path when building your model?

quite an interresting pic... with a color I wouldnīt in anyway have expected to see on an Wehmachts vehicle...
Itīs from the Feldgendarmerie (MPīs) of the 11.PD...
Miniart does a kit,(even with figures, but sadly though no MPīs)... but neverteless would be an really interresting diorama...

Miniart, or maybe it was DML, just announced a German Traffic Police set that should work well enough, though they'll need some conversions.

Not completely sure I wanna go that way if thatīs the "real" shade but sure, it would be an eye-catcher

Right... itīs not shure if itīs the real color... but frist you need somebody who can prove you wrong
@Christopher: Havenīt heared about that, but there are already lotīs of MPs out there, Tamiya, DML, Miniart, Masterbox... so that isnīt a real problem...

Just to give a long-dead thread a kick...
I've currently got two vehicles in the stash that I'm likely to build as either generic German military police or Waffen SS Polizei vehicles - the Mercedes 170VK in Masterbox's "Where Are The Damned Roads?" set, and the Bronco Panzer I Ausf F, several of which ended up in an SS police unit on the Eastern Front in 1943.
Anyone know if the blue/green shade is even an outside candidate for either of these? It certainly would look a little different, but the only places I've seen the color are in the photo of the restored L1500 in this thread, and in the profiles of the ADGZ on the paint sets from AK Interactive (which was released during the days when Mig Jimenez was involved) and from Ammo by Mig. In other words, really just one source, and I know that the subject of Mig Jimenez and paint accuracy is sometimes a volatile one.
My hunch is that it's not suitable for either, but a) it'd be nice to have one the line of Mercedes 170s I'll have built in this interesting shade and b) it is *slightly* weird for the Panzer I Ausf F to be sent out to the Eastern Front in 1943 in Dunkelgrau. There are several photos of the Ausf Fs, a couple of which appear in the relevant Panzer Tract, they're definitely in one color overall - and in the photo showing a rather tidy (fresh?) vehicle on a railway carriage, the color does look a little light to be Dunkelgrau.
Although I've seen claims elsewhere that the vehicles that ended up in the police unit were the same ones that were initially allocated to z.b.V 66 in preparation for the invasion of Crete, this seems unlikely - for one thing, those seem to have had a unit-specific stowage pattern featuring a custom jerrycans rack and large stowage bin on the left rear fender, and it'd have been rather strange to have taken vehicles painted in the Tropen scheme and repainted them in a single color that late (unless - they were painted a special police color). So it seems likely that the vehicles came from stocks in Germany, which'd have been painted Dunkelgrau when the I Ausf F's 0-series were produced in late 1942 - the number of the type built seems to exceed the number issued to z.B.V. 66 so there were presumably some sitting around in storage somewhere.
Any info anyone might have on either vehicles possible coincidence with that nice dark teal color would be welcome - I suspect it'd be inappropriate for the 170VK since it's a standard military police vehicle, not one specific to an SS police unit, and the likelihood of bright turquoise Panzer I Ausf Fs zipping around the Eastern Front seems low, but I might as well see if anybody knows for sure (or, more likely, can rule out the use of said color for sure).

The hue, known as "Polizeigrun" was Farbton 30 RAL Register 840B 2", which is today's RAL 6009 Tannengrun "Pine Green". Accept no imitations. Also, the Waffen SS, like the Heer, used the same Heer-approved colors for vehicles and equipment as of 1 Sept 39.
