Hello,

I have a question regarding the installation of ERA blocks on the side skirts. Is the forward section of the side skirt panels prepared for the attachment of ERA panels or are the skirts reinforced from the inside and the "knobs" you see are just the bolts?

In case ERA panels can be installed, is there a picture available showing this configuration?

Hope you understand my question.

Thanks,

Thomas

Thomas from what I can tell T-80's when (it seems often they are not) equipped with the ERA blocks on the sides it is in 3 sets of 3 bocks in horizontal position. These are not mounted to the side skirts but rather THROUGH the skirts and onto the steel fenders/track guards. I have not been able to find any reference to T-80BV's (or any other version) having more than this strip of nine (as is often seen on T-62's and T-72's).

Hope this helps.

There can also be a strip of just the top 3 sets of 3 (9 ERA blocks total). And the whole friggin length of the side skirt...

So...

1. No ERA

2. 3 rows of 3 ERA blocks (27 total blocks) at the front of the sideskirts

3. Only the top 3 sets of 3 ERA blocks for each row (9 ERA blocks total).

4. All the side skirt

and just to make it more fun...

Thanks Jacques for clarifying that the ERA can be mounted all along the side skirts although in the 5 books I have and numerous images that's the first time I've seen it.

Thanks to all the replies! Was a little difficult to explain what I meanlike in the Trumpeter kit or the complete lack of, but havenīt seen a full ERA equipped side skirt. How they are attached?

Are there more pictures available with full ERA on side skirts?

Thanks,
Thomas

No more pictures I could easily find, but here is the webpage they came from. Tanknet takes a LOT of perusing, but it is a good place for technical information: http://www.tank-net.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21821&page=11

Hi Thomas;

I am not quite sure if this Bit of Information is what you are asking for, on vehicles with side skirts that have ERA there are metal strips on the Back-Side or on the reverse side if you like that are in a ( H ) shape that is side ways along the inside of the skirt. The H metal strip has Guide Holes at even intervals that the ERA blocks are attached too, they just Drill a Hole thru the skirt and run the bolt into the guide hole and attach the bolt on the in-side. I have seen this on the T-64,& T-72 and think it would be the same for the T-80.

CHEERS; MIKE.

Thanks Frenchy, nice find.

Here are some specific photos from Facebook (courtesy of Maden Tinker) concerning the mounting of the ERA bricks:

Hope that clarifies things even more!

Hello guys,
I have bought the Trumpter T-80BV a week ago and would like to show the model on operation in Chechnya with the full 4 layers of ERA bricks on the skirts. So, I would like to know if all bricks hold on the skirts with a metal plate like the first layer?

So far as I know, yes. They have the ERA bricks bolted on a metal "plate" that bolts onto the side skirt, like in the instructions.
