Probably a fairly basic question, but did the turret of the BMP-1 change shape over time? Some images I see of it show the rear slope to be quite severe, whereas on others there is a slight slope but not nearly as severe as the turret's front slope. Was this a modification or is it a problem with sketches/models of the vehicle?

Could you link us to the photos you're looking at ? That may help. I haven't seen anything to suggest the general shape changed over time, only the welding shut of the reload hatch and addition of the turret top ATGM mounting post with the introduction of the BMP-1P.

I don`t know about turret, but hull may be with different length.
Earlier hull is shorter.It has channelled hatch with 6 ribs over the engine. Later BMP-1 has 7 ribs.
