Got an itch to finish this one. I added a few details to the turret that are not in the photos. I'm hoping to finish painting the hull, tomorrow. This is Dragon's KT Henschel turret with Zimmerit.

For some reason, it appears to still have a gloss coat in the photos. IRL it is dead flat.

It sure looks like a clean build so far. Did you put a brown / red wash on it? Have you thought of toning it darker? May be a black wash? It sure will pop out the details.

Just an idea,
Keep up the good work,
Cheers,
Tom

looks kool Matt. Turn your flash off your camera or avoid having any light source from pointing directly at it. Use the edge of the light if ya know what I mean?

The wash stands out more, in person. Now that the first wash is sealed, I'll go back over it. This should add more depth. I have heard that black washes should be avoided.

David: Thanks.

David is absolutely correct. It is the reflection of the flash that is causing the gloss look. Get an extension cord and move the flash 45 degrees off camera to one side and this effect will be greatly reduced. - OR - Shoot the same photo using available light and the reflections will most likely disappear altogether.

I had a feeling that the flash was the culprit. Unfortunately, my camera only cost $300 and does not have a remote flash. Accordingly, I took a few photos of it this morning without the flash.

looks good so far Matt. Did you mask and spray ? or brush ? paint is nice and smooth. I think "rain streaks" or lightened color in the middle would look awesome on it to give it some different tonal values. Really good work so far.

I masked it using blue painter's tape. The hull will be the tricky part. I may add rain streaks using water colors. Right now, the next gloss coat is drying and I will apply some darker colors to it.

Very nice and clean so far! I might add some more details to the spare track links, probably some metallic shine with graphite powder.

I like the scratches you did on the hatch but I think this should be repeated on other parts as well to make it more credible.

Other than that, a great start! Looking forward to more images!

I'm trying to keep weathering to a minimum. If there were more grab handles or as easily worn spots, I would continue with the scratches. I'm attempting to represent a recently fielded tank.

I'm calling the turret finished. I have one camo color left to spray on the hull. Looks like I will be into pigments by tonight. On a side note, would rain marks be feasible on zimmerit? And, if so how can I achieve an accurate representation of them?

I've just started to weather the hull.

looks good Matt. I'm not sure about the "rain marks" on the zimmerit. you did a good job with the tools on the hull as well. I can understand about the light weathering as a recently fielded tank. I mentioned the rain marks or possibly some lighting of the colors in the center to give it some differing tone value. Kind of the way when you look at a car in the sun light and the same color paint looks different shades along different parts of the color due to different refections. Kind of like color modulation. It was just an idea I was throwing out, not necessarily a must have. Good job thus far.

I understand the reason for this. I can break up the monochromatic easily enough, this morning.

Can anyone point out the gas cap?

Unfortunately, I injured my shoulder putting the mast up on my boat. The consequence being that I can use it for long periods of time. So, this build is going to slow down a little.

Hey Matt. Sorry to hear about your injury and I hope you get better soon. Here is a link showing some pictures and talk about the fuel tanks http://www.network54.com/Forum/637977/thread/1244834431/Fuel+tank+appearance+question

Bobby: Thank you. Mainly I was looking at adding some fuel stains. However, I am not sure they would be visible, under such a large cap.

Just fixed the mg mount. I little paint and it will be done. I'm also considering adding an even darker wash to the turret. I think the hull looks much better with it.

I have added the wheels, but forgot to remove the seem lines. I'll get on this, right away. A couple of more trips to the paint shop and on to the pigments. I also added a bit more detail to the turret. After all, it's the detail that makes a build stand out. I have decided my next trick will be Dragon's KT Porsche with zim.

Update, soon. This kit has convinced me to take another KT to Nationals. You will have to attend to see it.
