Hi guys -

My M-10 now has a crew. I am by no means a figure guy - so any advice given would be most welcome. The guys are painted in the base colors, but they need to be "toned" down a ton. I have a long way to go on these poor fellas, but I just had to stick em in the M-10 to test the fit.

The dudes in the turret have been heavily modified (dremel...... bzzzzzzt.... hehehe) to make them fit the tank. (Actually, the two guys in the turret started life as Germans.. lol)
Anyway - comments and suggestions on the tank and/or the figures would be appreciated -
Thanks-
Nelson

Jeff,
I don't think you can say you are not "a figure guy"...you did a great job on the dremel work, and whatever other modifications you made on the figures. I'd like to know what kits they were from, to get a better idea of what you did to them. I am impressed!. Maybe a little dirt on their uniforms would help, but other than that, you hit it dead on!

The figures are from Warriors... sorry I can't tell you the exact kits. I used a hodge podge of arms and hands for the guys. I basically had to dremel the hands I wanted to use off of a spare arm, and stick it on the arm that I could best modify. There was considerable sanding and filling around the arms and hands to get the poses to fit the gun breech.

The fig on the back of the turret is the only guy who was built as he came in the box. The two turret guys are half-figures, from the midsection down they are some poor SS grenadiers I sawed in half.

I still have a long way to go...... what color would be good (oil paint mix preferrably) for a wash on the uniforms? I want to tone down the green a bit.

Thanks-
Jeff

Lord Nelson aka "DA PE god"

The figures are well done. The facial coloring looks especially good on the turret fig with the tanker helmet that is facing forward. Can you describe what you have done to get to this point i.e. paint used, base color, high lights etc?

Also, the gear stowage is top shelf. The straps and gear are very effective ---care to share how these were done and the material used? :-)

Perhaps a wisp of wire in the antennae mount might be a nice addition.

Very very solid model building!!!

Signed
Lens jr (tm)

ps: Can I send you my figs for a custom "Nelson Paint Job"???

Lord Steve :-)

The figures were base primed with Tamiya flat flesh color with my airbrush. Then the uniforms, etc., were brush painted with MM enamels. The faces/hands then got a wash of MM enamel flesh tone "shadow". After this, I went back over the faces with MM enamel flesh tone "warm" to blend the shadow to the lighter Tamiya flesh color. The eyes are MM enamel flesh tone "light", with Tamiya clear blue pupils. That's all I've got done so far.... I'm kinda stuck now as to what to do...... hehehe These guys are my first real attempt at figures - so I'm open to suggestions.

The tarps and bedrolls are just gift wrapping tissue paper and white glue. The straps on the individual rolls are made of foil - the straps holding the rolls to the tank are PE from the Eduard set... :-) I love PE :-)

Thanks-
Jeff

PS - I just realized that I posted this under "armor subjects", when I really need figure help.. lol I guess old habits are hard to break... lol I'll prolly take some more close ups of the figs and re-post them under the "figure subjects" classification.

Well now JN a nice job!!
Goosh I am only up to the wheels on mine.
If I remember correctly this is Academy KIt right?
It is a nice kit so far better then the last one and my first Academy kit in 27 years!
Last one I bought was when I was in Korea back in 1977 copy of the M-113 it was a piece of FILL IN THE BLANK. Big difference today.
Back to yours nice build, but keeping with the Forum rules I would say hull needs some gear thrown on it cans ,wheels, track links, rations, Etc...
To clean in this area.

Now the tarp on the side that is killer and the straps Sweet .
How did you make those lead, paper, tape and the buckle a nice touch!

Sweet build

Hmmmm are you sure about the color of those coveralls???

Just kidding... .They look awsome JR!!! Some of Steve Zaloga must've rubbed off when you met him in the hobby shop!!!

However the M-10's Zimmerit application is kind of on the light side though, I can barely see it! #:-)
