I had a KV-2 as a test model so I stripped the paint with Mr. Muscle (lost some items and the decals scrubbing it), tried hairspray technique and applied mud with white glue and pastels. The KV-2 looks IMHO better without fenders. It's my first weathered model like this.

Hi,
That maybe I'll start. Looks like a winner, no fenders adds to its charm. Great painted tracks. Cool did the mud. Very nice work.

The lack of fenders certainly emphasize the tallness of this tank. I just built the Tamiya version and found it to be pretty easy to assemble. Is the Trumpeter much harder? Did you use the kit tracks?

I bought it as my first kit since decades, if it's harder than the Tamiya I don't know, probably not. The tracks are the styrene link and length from the kit.

That's really nicely turned out. I like the omission of the fenders and the weathering came out very nice!
