Hisham

Hisham, it would appear although perhaps not used by the army , it seems many mining, construction, logging and agricultural types used them for a long time after that - I even found a few still in service in as far away as Tasmania, clearing a forest and one guy in the midwest using it as a farm tractor!

I am assuming that they will also do the dozer version as well.

I don't think so. The D7 in one version or another, continually updated, is still in use w/the US Army.

It looks like this basic version was also used in Vietnam. OliveDrab.com shows this pic with what looks like the same basic version in Vietnam.

The caption reads. "D-7 bulldozer working a borrow pit, Vietnam, 1960s."

Any thoughts?

Buy one as soon as they come out before Caterpillar sends Miniart licensing fees and a cease and desist order!
I'm not joking, Caterpillar did it to Meng!

The WW2 variant was used in Vietnam indeed, but not by the US Army AFAIK.... Here's a D7 dozer belonging to the ROK Army in action there :

I have a 1968 TM for the US Army D7 and I can tell you it's a different beast

Here's a civilian 1968 D7 dozer (I guess the Army one is rather close):

Yep, Caterpillar/Finning have thousands of licensing deals and take unauthourized things pretty seriously - and one of the few large multinationals with the clout to do do something about it!

Some of the large Class 1 railroads have been doing the same for model railroading subjects too; It would be interesting to see how it would shake out since the word "Caterpillar" isn't in the model description or replicated as a decal on the model itself...unless Cat claims that they have rights ( and they may have) to "D7".

If the CAD images from MiniArt are what the kit will be molded as, then they will have "CATERPILLAR" molded on the side of the radiator housing as shown.

Perhaps it will be a CATERPIUUAR in the mould, like a certain brand of tyres has been done?

The Meng Caterpillar D9 kits on the shelves now may be the last we see of this kit. Caterpillar forced them to stop production and pay liscensing fees on each kit sold; Meng said we ain't playin that game and they're fighting it out right now.

Great stuff. We need more construction vehicles like scapers and dozers. I hope they do civilian dozer versions as well.

Resicast had released one as well, but it's OOP now...

Maybe Mirror Models should start worrying about their own D7 kits release

This is a caterpillar: yellow caterpillar
Probably copyrighted by: http://keithlevit.worldofstock.com/index.php?m=inquiry&show=9&sv=&cu=NIN1348

maybe Frenchy can find an image of a caterpillar-lawyer somewhere

That's what I was thinking. It's nice to see this from Miniart but I'm surprised they didn't do a different model instead of another D7 seeing as Mirror are doing one.

Well for my two cents just drop the cat name off the mold and resume production Caterpillar isn't the only construction vehicle company out there. Deer makes loders and dozers along with other companys theres a japanese or korean company out there making some pretty huge equipment in the real world so why cant we have some nice modern engineering equipment in the scales we build in besides the few items out there in 1/25 scale. Its good advertisment for them anyway. Maybe with the low oil prices the cost of plastic will drop a bit also we can always hope.
