Started the Tasca M4A3E2 Jumbo back in November and got as far as the primer coat.
Wanted to try some new AV paints I'd never used before. Mixed results. Small amount of paint covers very well. I've never done the modulation thing before but it did help break up the monotone OD finish.
My only complaint on the color is it appears too green for my taste especially when I used the first weathering filter in the AV set.
I darkened it up with an oil raw umber filter.
Next step will be a little dry brushing and then details paintings.

This Jumbo looks amazing! I'm looking forward to how the modulation turns out, the finish is already great!

Hi Chris .. great job on the Jumbo .. The OD does look quite green but maybe some brown filters might bring it back.. There seems to be something missing on your stowage where the strap stops and then starts again .. don't forget to add a handle to the jerry can.. I've got this kit in my stash ..thanks for the inspiration.

That's a real beauty. What did you use to mask the vision slots, on the cupola? I have been intending to buy the OD paint system, but stick with other weathering products. How easy is it to use? To be honest, the shade of green depicted on the box has caused me reservations.

This is the part I dread the most - weathering. I put down some filters and a couple of washes to the upper hull and turret and then went to various pigments and powders for the lower trying to build up the dirt and mud effect without losing some of the details of the running gear. Starting the same on the tracks.
Did some basic painting of the stowage with a first wash for the folds and a little dry brushing over the highlights. It looks better to the eye than on camera.

Did two brown filters and it knocked it back a little. May need a couple more. Also going to try some oil paint dots. I found the piece of stowage for the tie down strap and I have not forgotten the gas can handle - yet

I like the mud/dirt effects on the lower hull. Make sure to carry that over onto the drive sprockets... the insides are perfectly clean still!

I agree, with Jesse. The lower hull definitely fits the bill.

Great Job Chris! Personally I think it still looks a bit too clean on top, especially if it's intended for a dio. There should be more dirt and dust in the nooks and crannies. The bottom looks great though!
What is the stowage? Home made or resin?
Cheers!
Stefan

I agree with Stefan - it's a great job!
And it needs some "dust" pastels ground into the hull top and turret roof - the crew's boots would drag plenty of mud up that dries out and grinds in all over as they stomp about fussing with maintenance etc. (Looking at the excellent muddy suspension, my guess is the upper surfaces would be dusty in a matter of minutes once the crew mounted up!)

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will add some more dirt and dust to the upper hull. The boot prints is a great idea.
The stowage is resin. I think it was a set from Legends. The aerial recognition panel is lead foil primed and then painted.
Found a couple of errors myself from the photographs. Need to add the radio aerial and the tie down strap on the axe handle shifted and needs to be moved.

The stowage looks great. What did you use for the tie down ropes?

The rope is just polyester thread painted with thinned oils (yellow ochre & raw umber)

Looks great. I agree with the other comments, add some wear and tear to the turret and upper hull, tools, etc. Perhaps fold on side of the red tarp under the strap so it looks like it's held down. Well done.

All of your suggestions and critiques have been much appreciated. Think a better model has been the result. A couple of major construction flaws popped up but too late to correct those. I did a little bit more to dirty it up. I opted to leave the recognition panel as is. I may just remove it once I put the model on the base. Waiting for my dragons teeth in the mail. So for now I'm putting this to bed and moving on to something else. Really need to invest in decent camera as the iPhone leaves a lot to be desired.

Looks really good!! The stowage is well done. Just wondering though, why there are no markings??

I had gone through a number of images and saw that were some tanks that seemed totally devoid of markings. I wasn't building a specific vehicle so I went with one without any. My guess is they were scraped off by the crews so to be accurate I could go back and show some worn areas where that was done.

Chris, top notch Jumbo, it all ties together really nicely. I think most crews would have painted over the markings instead of scrapping them off, much easier to slop some paint on than sand it. Might add some interest to have a rough area painted in a different tone covering where the stars had been.
Looks great though!
Eric.

It's much clearer in the earlier photos, the attention to detail on the tracks is great - the clear difference between the rubber and the metal and the different levels of weathering and wear on the metal really stand out as excellent work.

Done about all I want to do with this. Working on the base, wanting to show it travelling through an open section of 'dragons teeth'. We'll see how that comes out.
LOOKS GREAT!!! Mine just has a bit less road-dirt & mud, as I wanted to achieve a unit that hasn't seen any action, yet. She sits tied down on my "Dragon Wagon", on the way to the front...
