Well after helping out AP on his tiger I got to looking thru my kits of tigers I have to build and stumbled across my Sturmtiger and thought it would be a nice quick build...I had the old Eduard set which I used a few things from....especially the rifling for the cannon and the tool claps.....I scratch built the new jack block holder as well as the different C hook holder and also the new Jack braise....I also added a few details to the hull ....Added the step effect to the armored aiming visor, added the small details for stowing extra antennaes...added wire and new strap to the lifting crane ... I used the german army zeltbahn from DIOART...these have got to be seen to be believed ...just added a bit of water and white glue and it looks awesome...Tracks are from the kit....I hate link to link tracks that are not movable(friuls) the must have come apart on me at least 4 or 5 times and I it shows a bit ...Also I know to add the antennae but only just before a show ..lol
tell me what you think .....
I want to thank Claude Caron for taking these pictures for me and Daniel Munoz for helping me post them here...

I love it! The separation on the right side track is too obvious, can you muddy it over?

If you only do one thing, before you place it on the shelf ... do this! It will wake you up in the middle of the night screaming to be fixed! You seem to have making mud, a fine art ... I love how you have dirtied up the tracks, so this shouldn´t be a problem.

and thought it would be a nice quick build
Thought? Does this mean it was or did it take longer than expected. It definately doesnt have the rushed look to it. Really nice camo and weathering. perfect in my book .... just enough to show wear and tear but all detail is visible.
The dioart zeltbahn looks great. Im taking it, that it comes with camo already there? Is it paper or what is it made from? Lovely touch.
I see in dragons new 251/1 they have included some vinyl clothes and boots. Items like this have been lacking for a long time. Great for dios!

Rick:
In the words of the late great Harry Carey---- "Holy Cow"!!!
When looking at this one, and your Hetzer, its obvious you have a very distinctive painting style that subtely softens and blends different colors together, and yet leaves them distinct enough for the eye, that is really really impressive. An article describing this technique would be well worth reading (hint hint LOL).
The track --- as others have noted, you'll want to address this as it cries out against the backdrop of a stunning model. Take a set of Friuls from something else, and plop them on this one for your show if you're short of time.
If not, Friuls are the perfect compliment for this wonderful build. Wow---this thing is beautiful. Congrats.

Thanks for the kind works ...I know that track has been bugging me for a while but it came apart after I had finished the weathering ...I'll try and mix up another batch of mud ...now if I can only remember the colors I used in the plaster...I hate when that happens ..lol. Yeah this was supposed to be my oob kit that I usually do after a more complex project(hetzer) but I think it just grew on me..Oh I forgot to mention but the zimmerit was done with Tamiya putty. As for the DioArt zeltbahn yes it is paper ...you get six in a pack 3 of each side...I have both the army and SS styles and they are awesome to see . Really worth the big $4.25 U.S I paid for them ...

Thanks Jeff for the comments ...I didn't want to add a shell to the barrel because I wanted to show off the rifling in the barrel...I think I might just have a couple beside the kit on the base...We'll see ..

Nice mudjob.I concur w/ putting extra goo in the track split.I see you left off the sheet metal exhaust sheilds.Deliberate?
Are you going to put the "covers" over the ends of the exhausts? Or is that part of the look?I am not sure, but arent there "flapper" valves to cover the hole,to prevent water from getting in?
I like the sling.

Very nice work Rick! Those little details really add a lot don't they? I like the random scratches all over the place. How did you apply the zimmerit?
Hope my Early Jagdpanther comes out as good as this one

Well i'm quiet again. Two tanks in two days :-) It looks astonishing just as your other work. I like the blended colors very much and the rainstripes are spot on. Shame though from the tracks but enough is said about that. One thing I also noticed is de exhaust valves (don't know the right word) on top are missing and the look a little of pointing to the outside instead of straight up. But it's a little nitpicking. I hope you will win with one of these to beauty's.
Cheers

Well thanks again ...here are a few answers to the questions ...first later tigers didn't have the little covers over the exhaust because of the flame suppressors...I was going to add the suppressors but just like the look of the exhaust the way they were so ...it was battle damage and that's my story and I'm sticking to it...lol I noticed that the exhaust was a bit crooked in the picture too ,but it has just come unglued and is now straight again.. As for the zimmerit ..well I used Tamiya putty and the tool they brought out a while ago ..I like the fine look to it ...not too deep....

Dare I say your Sturmtiger is, in a word, EN FUEGO! Wow, what a great job!
I agree with a previous statement about the tiny gap in the tracks being a candidate for a splash of mud. Other than that small detail, you have accomplished a great feat of plasticology. Thanks!

Very nicely weathered and built. You know about the track and antenna. My only quibble is givenhow everythiing else has a well used feel to it, the barrel end looks too clean.

From pictures I have seen of sturmtigers ..I don't think the the blast left any soot ...these were rocket propelled and I think that the fuel burnt pretty clean...I may be wrong but...

Very nice work here. Outstanding camo scheme and weathering. I like how you have that Zeltbahn drooped on it, thats an eye catcher. Zimmerit looks fantastic too.
I really lik how you re-worked the ammo winch. I'm actually working on this very kit now, and I'm trying to figure out how you did that winch ? If you can let me know will you. You can PM me here on Armorama. :-)
Cheers !!
