During the WWII, Soviet JS/JS-2 (Joseph Stalin) heavy tanks were the nightmare of German army. After the war, the Soviet Union still insisted that heavy tanks were most important in wars, and equipped its troops with JS-3 and JS-4 tanks. In 1948, the Object 730 started. The tank once was named JS-8, JS-9 and JS-10. In the late 1950s, the Soviet Union implemented the policy of de-Stalinization. Object 730, as the last version of Joseph Stalin heavy tank series, had to be renamed T-10. Between 1953 and 1965, about 1500 T-10 tanks were produced by the Soviet Union. The last version of T-10 tank and also the version with most modifications - T-10M, started its service in 1957. T-10M had a crew of 4. Its combat weight was 51t. It was powered by a 750hp V-12-6 supercharged diesel engine. It was fitted with a 122mm M-62-T2 (2A17) rifled gun; its secondary weapon was a 14.5mm KPVT coaxial machine gun and an anti-aircraft machine gun. The loader and commander were supplied with infrared night vision equipment. The tank was equipped with an NBC protection system.
MENG’s brand new TS-018 1/35 scale Soviet T-10M Heavy Tank plastic model kit is exactly a replica of this most feared Soviet heavy tank. This kit is 305mm long and 97mm wide. Its typical exteriors inherited from Joseph Stalin heavy tanks are realistically replicated. Many details of the real vehicle are perfectly represented, like the front hull structure, the "turtle shell" turret and the long barrel.
During the Cold War, T-10Ms pointed their barrels at the NATO AFVs on the other side of the Iron Curtain. However, they didn’t get any chance to fight with NATO tanks and finally retired from service in 1993. They only participated in the Operation Danube in the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968.
Now, let’s take a look at the following pictures and enjoy MENG’s coming monster!

Indeed good news. I started helping Meng with this one in late 2013 so it's been quite difficult biting my tongue knowing all we had to do was wait for a better kit to come out. Who know how Dragon will disappoint, but if history is our guide, they will. Meng was confident enough to continue their project even after Dargon's announcement. I'm hoping to receive mine from Meng soon. The trick is to actually be in the US when it gets there.

Robert, you meant Trumpeter? I haven't heard about T-10 from Dragon.

All in all this is great news!

EDIT: or maybe it was just the type of tank that got mixed, I remember sth about "waiting" when Dragon anounced their Conqueror ?

Cheers,
Greg

Rob, Trumpeter right? Trumpeter went a head and pushed out box art for their T-10 and T-10M today. Looks like Meng will have both options in there box. Very excited.

Good news. I hope also that some concurrence will affect favourably the prices of these kits as already happened with the T-90.

There are 8 (!) possible tanks to be made: T-10, T-10A, T-10B, and T-10M. Both Leningrad and Chelyabinsk made the tanks and since the two plants did not get along really well, they were not interchangable...so a T-10A from Leningrad would be different than a T-10A from Chelyabinsk. Go to town rivet counters....we have room for all these kits.

I bet Trumpy will rush there kits out as quickly as possible. I built the Meng Terminator and I'm sold on them. I will wait for there kit over the Trumpeter kits.

The thing I've noticed with Meng is there is not much time in between announcement and availability unlike Trumpeter.

Most likely, but they've been working on them a long time also.

One thing modellers don't understand is that often design work for models is done years before its actually released. For example, Dragon had their M3 halftracks designed back in 2003/4 and didn't release them till 2006.

I first started working with Meng on the T-10M back in 2013, so yes, it does take a while.

Maybe it's just me, but I see a lot more sense in releasing any vehicle such as the T-10 over an "Ojekt 279"... Please, no sticks and stones- it's just an opinion...

He's not joking. Trumpy put BRDM-1 into their catalogue 2-3 yrs ago. Still not released. They also make great hype for their new kitas eg. on FB and... Not released for months, half a year or more.
Meng shows the boxart and release the kit very soon (OK, scud is different).
So it's not a joke.

one of the reasons i will probably choose the MENG kit. I understand that this is a great marketing tool to create a huge hype - i mean when they had IS7 and IS4 in preparations i was checking out whether there is something new about them literally every other week and once they appeared on ebay i bought them instantly. But it is so annoying to wait for being able to buy a kit for a year from the first moment you see it.
Than they announce, let's say, april release date for the kit and it appears on the market in july. Come on.

But considering how much desired kit this is and considering the quality Meng is most likely going to offer, Trumpeter would be incredibly stupid if they didnt release their's ASAP and waited for another several months.

I'm a big fan of Meng - their overall balance of subject, accuracy, detail and presentation is second to none. But it's not like Trumpeter are miles behind. It used to be that choosing between kits was often a choice between 'terrible', 'okay' and 'pretty good'; nowadays more often than not it's a choice between 'awesome', awesomer' and 'awesomest'.

Well, I bought 3 Trumpy kits this year: BMP-2, Vodnik and 2S7. The first two is... better to say nothing

Well, I was being a little tongue-in-cheek, but I do believe the general standard of new releases is way beyond what it was even a decade ago.

Going off-topic, but what's wrong with the BMP-2? That one's on my wish-list. It's got to be better than the old Dragon/Italeri/Revell/Zvezda piece of cr*p

Off:
Tracks and interior are useless. The rest is far better than zvezda/dragon.

The only reason you need is that it is the better kit.
