Guys,
I have the AFV Club Achilles Mk IIc and wish to build it as a Canadian one and can't seem to find many pics. Are there any around? I know of the profiles of Caribou and Chippawa, but do pics of them exist? Also, did both use the T-62 tracks or just Chippawa?

I am going to piggy back on you I have been looking forever also. I know the IWM??? Site has some and video but I cannot view them on my computer for some reason. I have one of an Achillies from Holland but I do know also one of the ATK regiments switched to Archers.

Canadians trained on the M-10's just prior to Korea, but they were left on the docks, as the American supplied Sherman's for them in Korea.

They trained and landed with them in Puson Korea 1951, and they were Achilles 17pounders in 2 tone paint.

I would say there are pics of both Caribou and Chippawa kicking around since the Armoured Acorn colour plates are based on the vehicles while on parade in Eelde, Netherlands on May 23, 1945.
Since your question is about WWII Achilles and not the Achilles used by the Strathconas leading up to Korea try searching for images of 4th Canadian Anti-Tank Regiment or for Victory Parade images from 1945 in the Netherlands.

Cam would be US Lusterless Olive Drab and what looks like beige colour. These didn't last long as they were traded for Sherman M4A3E8's from US stocks soon after landing in Puson.

I have an Achilles in my stash, and I see that Star Decals(Bison) makes a set for this vehicle, thus I may have to build it.

Perhaps try to contact Barry Beldam on Armoured Acorn as he created the colour plates of the Achilles...so he probably has the pics.

There is a Canadian website called the memoryproject and they have veteran pictures there. I did come across one shot of an Achilles (if memory serves my right). It was one I had never seen before, but from the rear.

Interesting thread. I don't want to hijack it, but what happened to those Canadian Achilles after their arrival in Korea? Were they shipped back, passed on to someone else or simply scrapped?

All of the Achilles were stripped of all of the radio gear and respective kit and were shipped home as they were not used in Korea, plus being armed with 17 pounders, not turned into US stock inventory . The radio kit was then used on the "loaned" Sherman M4A3E8's.

ISTR reading the brown cammo was actual mud...a practice that persists to this day with the LdSH(RC).

There is a photo of Chippawa in Canada's Fighting Vehicles by WA Greg pub Canadian Military Historical Society 1979/1980.
Chippawa is being driven past a reviewing stand in Holland at the end of the war. The caption describes Chippawa as part of 5th Armoured and crewed by the RCA. The unit badge is for C Troop, 16th bty, 4th AT, 5 CAD
Unfortunately this an extremely rare book long out of print, but you might find it on an inter-library loan.
In the same photo are two turretless Stuart M3A3's Cherie and Buckshaw of the same unit.

It's from the same book Gord. As Brad Main was only interested in a Canadian 17-pdr M10, I cropped the image to eliminate BUCKSHEE and I just enhanced the scan a bit for clarity purposes.
