Takom: T55 Times TwoPosted: Wednesday, January 13, 2016 - 10:36 PM UTC
Could it be time for the Tamiya T55 to go silently into the night? The Tamiya T55 has been the T55 of choice for a good number of years, but now Takom have two T55’s driving onto the market.

Much as I love the idea of a new T-55 I`m gonna have to pass on this one as I prefer Tamiya`s vinyl tracks - I can`t do indi links !

Plus all they have at this moment is the Soviet built versions,not none of the versions built in Poland or Czechoslovakia.

Love the CAD images. My experience with Takom has been good so far, so I'd be interested.

Hi Guys;
I Welcome these two new kits, and the more Different types from Different companies is only A Plus for Us !
As for Building A Polish or Czec, version then Stay with the Excellent Tamiya T-55. IMHO the Tamiya T-55 was an Outstanding Value for the Money, as it gave the Modeller Different versions from other country's ! Now; Some Hate Rubber Band type tracks and others cant stand individual links; But its A Personal preference which one you choose.
As for Takom kits; I like them A lot, there T-14 is A Superb model, even if it Lacks the Under Hull Details, the Quality of the Moldes is fantastic as is the quality of the Plastic.
CHEERS; MIKE.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of building the Czech and Polish versions out of Takom's kits. IIRC the T-55's upgrades can be found fitted on different versions of the tank regardless of the country of origin. However, it's anybody's guess whether it'll allow us to build a vanilla T-55.
I'm curious if Takom is made up of former Dragon employees, their kit engineering reminds me a lot of the Black Label kits.

Based off what I've seen on the CAD images its doubtful a standard T-55 could be built from either kit. The AM had different rear mud guards and I'm guessing the turret will have all sorts of locating holes for the turret armor.

As far as a standard T55 goes Trumpeter is planning a new T55A (different from their old one), though I am not sure when the release date is.

TRUMPETER's Chinese T-61(?) sounds interesting, too! What we could all use are kits of the T-44 and T-54... I hope... Maybe..?

GREAT, really! But STILL, it figures that these new kits of other versions of the T-55 come after I went out and bought A/M conversion sets!

Hi Guys;
IMHO these two kits were way overdue in plastic kit form;
But remember that you could have built these Two Versions for lets see, twenty years now. There were atleast six different AM companies that made resin conversions, among them was AEF ! Both the BD & BV were not new versions of the T-55s, just the first in Injection Molded Plastic.
Again The Tamiya T-55 is A kit that all the other's are going to go A Long way to Beat, and another version we will seen soon is the Kladevo ! Atleast I Hope So.
