I was looking at Meng products and noticed a large price difference between the FT 17 with a cast turret or a riveted turret. Is there something exceptional about one over the other?

The cast turret has full interior and engine. The riveted turret has on a partial interior and no engine

That is what I suspected. I plan on gitting one in late summer. The partial interior is probably the one to get.

I built that one but didn't know the interior difference. End up spending another 18 or so on the ET Models detail set and doing the interior that way. Should have done what you're doing and just asked.

The Riveted turret also comes with a moulded vignette base that the cast turreted version lacks.
