I was looking at the options 0nline for a KV-1 in 1/35 and noticed the choices were slim. Trumpter had a couple for $20 some odd dollars (What kind of kit is $20 anymore?). Is there a good accurate KV-1 kit out there? I saw enough aftermarket parts to make me think there were issues with the available kits..

The Trumpeter kits are rather good, with several versions to choose from. As with just about any kit, there are tweaks. This site has a good breakdown of the various kits and things that can be corrected:http://www.4bogreen.com/

Can only agree.
The Trumpeter KV kits are very well done, and Neil Stokes site is a gem.

Trumpeter established itself by offering kits at outrageously low prices. Some were old motorized toys aimed at the domestic market (their T-54/55 series) but their newly designed kits were first rate, and the KV kits are outstanding. Once they were established, they started adding some photoetch bling and other goodies to newer models, and used that as an excuse to jack prices up into Dragon territory. But the KV kits have sharp detail, with very nicely done link and length track with built in sag. They are drastically better than Tamiya's 1970's efforts, and are a better match dimensionally to published drawiings than the old Eastern Express/Ark kits or the newer Zvezda versions.
