Building this one now that I managed to clean up the DEF Model replacement wheels without ruining them.

For 1962 Europe, this should work to represent France? And other than the wheels, build and decal exactly as is?

should work; according to tanks-encyclopedia.com France used them into the mid-60's and an extended series was used until the 1980's; there are some side profile color schemes on that website

Were they that bad? I might consider the Hussar set then...

Cheers,

Cool video; looks like the scheme used in the 50's; however it seems likely some of them maintained the same scheme in the 60's;

OUCH! New trouble!

The DEF Model wheels themselves are OK, but the wheel masks proved to be too small. Now what?

Tom,
this EBR is not the EBR FL10.
In the French army, the EBR denominations were:
modèle 51 for the one with the FL11 turret (round one) with the 75mm gun;
modèle 55 for the one with the FL10 turret (AMX 13 one) with 75 mm gun;
modèle F1 for the one with the FL11 turret and 90mm gun.

I have a comprehensive walkaround of the vehicle in the video, even with pictures taken during the reconstruction process. You can have a look at my site if you're interested in.

Before you start building the model, take care of the light clusters. The large one on the right front fender must be on the left rear fender. This is the main mistake of the kit.

a) Make your own using a compass to cut the circle out of masking tape.
b) mask with strips of tape to get close to the hub and finely hand paint the boundary
c) hand paint the tires over spray painted hubs. The boundary and tires will be covered in dust, washes and much anyway.

Many options.

Thanks for the tip. Other question: Is the barrel itself the same for the first two turrets? I thought of getting a replacement.

Tom,
the 75mm gun on the FL11 turret was different than the one on the AMX 13 (FL10) one.
Here is one preserved at Mourmelon Army Base

As you can see, the barrel and the muzzle brake are different. If memory serves, it is shorter too.
Azimut has a conversion for this type. Here is my review of the conversion
