Afternoon all!
I'm currently building a Leopard 1a4 and was looking for references of this thing in action. Does anyone have photos of this in German service during the 70s 80s or 90s? I've searched for good references but for some reason it's been hard to find photos of this tank during exercises. I'd appreciate any help you could give me!

Try Tankograd Publishing :

The Leopard 1 MBT in German Army Service – Early Years” by Frank Lobitz ,which is a great book to start with.

A great Leopard site to check out is the Leopardclub, they have one of the most up to date lists for reference and kit's:

Hello Alan. You are right. Photos of 1A4 in action are quite hard to find. If you would like to PM me with your email address, can send you about 20 pics I have in my archive, which is all I have been able to find over the last 20 years or so!

Best regards

The welded turret Leopards had the shortest operational use in the German Army.

You could make it into a Danish 1A5 DK or Australian AS1.

I'll look for something that may help. Either a mud or snow camo would look good. Frenchy's link is correct.

Char Leopard, by the late Yves Debay, references PzBtl 293 for a picture of the 1A4. Fantastic book by the way and I can't read French.

PzBtl 293 finds a couple of options:

The last two pics H.P. posted are Leopard 1A4s...identified by the welded turrets and guard for the PERI R12.

The hand applied mud camouflage is classic! Great way to break up the monotone Gelboliv.

These have been some very helpful references, they will certainly help me along in my build! Also, did the 1A4 ever serve along side the Leopard 2? Since both were in operation at the same time I'd assume the Bundeswehr would combine them together. Any in action shots of this?

There was a really nice pictorial on Leopard 1's in German service by Concord (10007) http://www.abebooks.com/Leopard-1-2-Firepower-Pictorials-Concord/12408020189/bd

Also pre dating that was the Tamiya Pictorial on the leopard 1 in B&W from the late 70's. If you can find it there was a tanks illustrated title on German tanks 45 to present (no 7) which had a bit and No 1 Allied Forces Central Europe (NATO). Theseare old 70's titles but well worth searching for:

Cheers
