In the USMC you cannot even mow the lawn without safety vest, hearing protection, hard-hat, safety glasses, and aluminum overshoes.
Although cool... I don't think it'll pass a safety test.

they need to shape it more like the speeder bikes in Return of the Jedi

I have seen video by a company that is trying to build a vehicle that does look much like a speeder bike from Return. It is a quad copter that has all four sets of blades staggered and overlapping. It is hard to explain. They perfected the design using sub-scale models and have slowly been progressing up to a full size vehicle. Because it uses four rotors it is much more stable and capitalizes on years of research into quad copters.

It would make a great vehicle for scouts, but there are already drones for that, and weaponizing it would add a lot of weight. Not that I wouldn't love to have one. Imagine setting up a track and racing these!

Nothing innovative. The U.S. Army was testing out flying platforms in the 1950s.

A couple of the old army ones would be fatal if you slipped off and fell through the prop blades. Chop, Chop.

It seems like I seen something like this featured in an old copy of Popular Mechanics that had something similar to this.I guess it is like the jet pack, people are always going to keep trying until perfection.
