Some of the early Trumpeter kits were made of ABS plastic, not styrene. So MM liquid cement will have minimal or no effect at all. You can either try superglue, or get a special ABS glue.

Yes, the earlier Trumpeter kits were of a different kind of plastic (ABS plastic) which didn't react to the plastic cements we usually use.....
The cement which comes with the kit helpes but I'm afraid that cynocrylate or "superglue" is the bestoption for those early kits.

I used Tamiya thin cement (green cap) and it worked. As Pawel sais it, some CA glue can prove useful too.

If it is ABS then a MEK based glue or solvent should work but it's strong stuff so beware.

Have you tried Plastruct's PlasticWeld, or similar multi-plastic glue? Plastruct's early grey ABS shapes needed it, since normal styrene glues had no effect.

Those early Trumpeter kits are the worst I have ever seen, and that includes all of those early 90's Eastern European kits.I have never seen anything that would keep them together and they included there own tube of plastic cement/glue!!!I just don't even know if Gorilla Glue would work, but me,I stay away from all of those early kits of theirs.

Didn't know that such was the issue with the old Trumpeter kits. If its ABS then I believe Tamiya has a cement for such:
