Hi guys,
building a couple of GTK Boxer kits, I wonder why no AM PE company takes care of the kit or other RoG releases. I have all the AM stuff for Boxer (Blast Models update set, SKP lenses, Eureka XXL tow cable, Live Resin FLW 200), but I wonder why there are no PE replacenment parts for the kits. RoG released a PE set when the kit was originally released. I look for parts like teh rear mudflaps or the flaps for the hot air exhaust. Maybe RoG is not of interest for modellers outside Europe?

As with anything, it's all about the market. If companies don't feel the demand will be good enough to turn a good profit, they won't bother tooling up.

I'm kind of miffed that the AM does not have an interior for Meng's Panzerhaubitze 2000 that has exactly nothing in the box interior wise.

Yes that is strange that they are not intreasted in some brands or some kits.. It's the same with the Buffalo mpcv from bronco.. There we only have a photo etched set from voyager, nothing more.. There was 2 companys that said to me when i asked them that they was going to do update sets for them but both have cancel them i assume as it's over 1 year ago.. The same with meng models Cougar kit... I know the kit is wrong but.. Nothing else then the voyager set...
And for the Hobby boss Cv9040c we have the important machine gun month that is completly missing on the the kit..
And then we have some kits that alot of companys do things for...
So let hope the aftermarkets company looks on more kits and not only on some of the kits...

That makes as much sense as producing PE sets for kits that have been OOP for at least three-five years. Not everyone hoards kits like the Collyer brothers in the hope that something might be available at an indeterminate time in the distant future.

I would think market availability would be driven by the length of time a model (actual vehicle) has been in service, along with interest in subject matter. Like the examples given, they haven't been in services as long as, say, German WWII vehicles. And alotta folks get hooked on German Armor.

Only those who didn't build all that old stuff their entire childhood.
The old stuff had lots of variants, to build what looked like different 'types'....
modern stuff has (gross exaggeration) variances that are subtler... M1A1 vs M1A2 SEP2 smoke grenade placement..
so the modeling companies are making additional kits...(like WWII variants) out of the interiors of less 'types'
to boil it down ... what I'm comparing is the number of different Tiger I's v.s. the number of M1's that are put out by the modeling companies.
It's hard to remember but an American of legal age of 18 ...was born in 1998.... over 50 years AFTER WWII.
They grew up with the visions of 'Shock and Awe'.
To us old guys, and to all the new guys..

I suspect that a lot of AM is developed because a modeler has
a particular kit and wants to correct and/or detail it. So he develops and makes the parts for himself.--- Selling the AM to others -- an afterthought.

One excellent company completely ignored by AM companies is Fine Molds. Dozens of beautifully molded kits with no PE companies attention.

Don't they already do their own AM?

Minimally. The PE is one tiny 1" x 2" fret and not for all models. They do some barrels, but not for all models.
Then, try actually buying the stuff.

Coming from an industrial profesional environment with experince in sales, in my opinión it is all related to volumes and probably with what I use to hear described as "perceived quality".
Revell kits (AFv's) are not at the top of modeller's preference for models of best quality, nor they have a huge assortment. I mean we know there are "better brands". This puts RoG models in the field of "cheap models" that no AM-loving modeller will bother to improve. In a context of low volumes no company will bother entering the business. Last Revell AFV models (Leopards...) are great, so do this calls the AM companies to get a part of the cake.
Revell kits (airplanes) however have a better and deserved reputation and by far, bigger market, you find a lot of AM kits for them.
