I don't agree that Rye Field are "using the available references" as you said. Their CAD shows a headlight in the center front panel of the Tiger; but almost every photograph of this vehicle shows a headlight on the roof outer edge, by the driver.
What happened, if you ask me, is that Rye Field went to the various sets of plan views that people have published over the years. They trusted the drawings rather than the photos - and of course, drawings are much easier to use.
But not every tank draftsman is Hilary Doyle. The drawings have various mistakes in them.
