Hi James,
I'd recommend that you take a stroll over to [url=http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/PMMS (Perth Military Modeling Site)[/url] . Terry has a ton of reviews that should answer most, if not all, of your questions. Hope that helps.
Regards,
Georg

James;

Both Dragon and Tristar 38(t) kits are mostly very good-to-great. Both have specific errors and ommissions and mis-representations. As Georg suggested, one place to go to read on some direct comparisons between these maker's products is PMMS. There are quite a lot of reviews out and available for both 38(t) lines, and many, many build reports and blogs. Anyone who wants to get good mileage out of a 38(t) kit really should look at what lots of others have done and what specific bits they did.

Accuracy is a deep can of worms... IF you are seeking absolute correct representation of different rivet sizes and placements and numbers, neither line will be more than a starting point, and you'll want some solid detailed references, etc... And a more-general level, both lines encompass considerable general feature accuracy and both have some specific errors.

I've built some in both lines... IF you are seeking interior details, I think that Tristar may offer some better goods and better representation of some parts - driver's seats, etc. come to mind. But neither line is accurate! You'll need to do work to get closer to reality (but both will look great as-is!). Doing an exterior-only? I sorta lean a little towards Dragon - I think that the D may have captured the under-fender hull-side aspects a little bit better, and maybe also has done some better job with th e variation among rivets seen in these things. One thing Dragon has done well, I think, is actually capture the different turret-armor thickness seen between E/F and G versus S! It's subtle, but it's there! (But you will never know this unless you compare the turrets of the different types...).

As for those step-front types (A - D); That'll be Tristar (now HobbyBoss) or.... Tristar. The T "ausf B" kit is pretty nice and captures that salient frontal hull aspect well.

In sum; D offers a hull tub (simplifies the build a little but scrimps on hull-side interior detail), both lines offer lots of interior detail (Tristar included detail in some kits, and offered a separate interior kit - which is delux, IMHO) - detail which you'll really struggle to ever see (without doing cut-outs), given the couple tiny hatches a 38(t) has. Both lines offer styrene link tracks, and I like both track-sets. Each line has some goods and some bads in their running gear - you'll have to pick and choose what you want most in terms of road-wheel detail, etc. Both lines offer engines... and both "mills" will look OK OOTB, but desire detailing for max effect. Kit guns on both are OK - metal barrels always look better, IMHO, but you can work well with what each box supplies.

Get a couple - get one from each line! Build them and enjoy!

Bob
