Can anyone provide information on the material of the T62 tracks, I have looked on the internet but have found conflicting info. To my knowledge the pads were rubbers and the connectors steel, with the inner tracks (where the road wheel rolls) was also steel. Is this correct?

T62 is all steel including pads which are rivetted together.

According to the excellent link below, (complete with photos of the different types of links used on M4s) T62s outsides were all steel, but I think the "composite" may mean the insides were possibly rubber, hence the bolt heads on the outside of the link:

On further study-- it appears the "composite" just means there's an upper and lower half, bolted together-- so I think the T62 is all steel, inside and out.

After having a look at many examples of the T62 track they are all black in color. Was this paint applied over the steel, or a blackened steel? I'm asking to know if I should paint the tracks back with steel highlights or just black

They were coated with a preservative.
Regardless of what was applied the high points would be worn to bare steel in short order.
