When I was a teenager, I seen a picture of a model that was in a diorama book. It's was a German ww2 tank (not sure which kind) that was knocked out. The crew had dug a machine gun nest underneathe the tank between the road wheels. It had a Nazi flag drapped over it as well. This has stuck in my mind for a long time and I'd like to find some pictures of it. I did a google search and turned up empty handed.

There's a documented pic, somewhere on the Eastern Front, of a trench dug under a knocked out T34, for an MG 34 position. Maybe that was the origin for the dio.

That's a photo taken after the battle of El Guettar, during the Tunisia Campaign. That was the first time U.S. forces, led by George S. Patton, defeated German armored units.

You can find that diorama in the second edition of "How to Build Dioramas" by Sherpard Paine. Though it was a knocked out T34 not a German AFV but everything else in your description is spot on.

I have that book and I did not find any pic of what Dustin was looking for but if Sherpard Paine made it maybe google his name and see if what you are looking for comes up. Also Matt O if you have the same book, what page is it on? Maybe I can scan it (forgive me Mr. Paine) and post it for Dustin

Cheers

If you follow this link about 3/4 of the way down, this might be what you are inquiring about.

I don't have the same edition. I have the 1st Edition Kalmbach published one not the FSM one(which I think is Kalmbach also). But at least Dustin got his question answered.

Cheers
