Hi Everyone
I was wondering if there's an aftermarket barrel for the AFV Club 155mm Long Tom. I was looking for one that has the rifling in it. The kit has a nice aluminum barrel but no rifling and I'm not sure if I could recreate it or not. Anyone know of such a barrel out there please?

Thanks
Bob

Before dropping hard currency on a rifled barrel, you might want to investigate the dims of the actual rifling to determine whether it would be evident in 1/35 scale. I don't have a 155mm to measure but the groove depth on some 30cm naval guns was only 1.8mm, which translates to 0.05mm in 1/35 - the groove depth for a barrel of half the diameter is likely to be even less. I'm not confident that I could detect that on a model, considering that the thinnest styrene sheet is 0.125mm.

It's doesn't appear that anyone made a barrel for that kit, from all the sources I've viewed.

US 155mm guns used a rifling that was 0.050 inches deep, .0014 inches in 1/35 or about the thickness of a coat of paint.

Hi Bob:

Click2Detail does a 3D printed 1/35 155mm M1 gun barrel for the AFV Club kits of the Long Tom and M40 SPG. I've got it, and it's both very nice and quite accurate, compared to dimensions and drawings that I've seen (Kurt, I think this was at least partially based on your work?). It is rifled as well.

I have almost finished building this kit, the supplied barrel does have rifling but it's scale rifling and it took someone with better eyesight than me to point it out, if you run something fine like a needle around the interior of the muzzle you can just feel the rifling.

Hi Bernard
After I saw your post, I checked the barrel again and mine definitely does not have any rifling in it. Is it possible there were differences in what was included over multiple issues of the kit?

Thanks
Bob

I bought the Click2Detail 155 barrel around a couple years ago. It is pretty nice and a great improvement over the kit barrel. It is a two piece barrel. It does have some rough surface from the printing process that needs some sanding. It measures out well to Ordnance drawing except for the barrel ( muzzle end piece) was about a 1/4 inch too long and slightly warped. There is a measurement on the ordnance drawings showing the distance where the barrel flares out to the muzzle. Coincidently, this is about the same as the error in length. So was there a programming error? As I believe these are made per order, I sent an email of my findings to the owner of the product to see if they could review any program issues. Do not know if any corrections were ever made. Anyway, an easy fix. When I get back to this project, I will probably turn an aluminum piece to replace the kit part.

Was just on their site looking for an 8in tube and some other goodies. The site is temporarily down right now. From what I've read the 155mm and 8in correct the length errors in the AFV Club kits.
