First dio I'm trying to build in almost two years. This is an Italeri M998 Desert Patrol Hummer I'm converting to the ones used by the SF during OIF. Scratchbuilt some of the parts from sheet styrene. Comments are welcome.

Cardinal, I like it. Only a few things that I noticed that could be fixed/modified. The figures look like they could use some weathering in the form of washes, drybrushing, etc. The Humvee looks very good only I think there could probably be some more stowage(eg. CIP panels, Alice packs). The ground could also use some vegetation, some bushes or something. The figure at the back of the Humvee is good but the Barret sniper and spoter could be moved in towards the Humvee more to make it look more like they are using it as cover and not just a transportation means. Also, the Humvee could use a crew to man it. One thing for future reference is to make sure that the figure's hands are gripping the gun (eg. the Barret sniper isn't holding the gun). I've heard that this can be fixed by holding the figure's had in hot water for thirty seconds and then form the hand to the gun. Don't worry about the plastic, it keeps its form and properties. It isn't like using a candle and stretching sprue. Hope this helps and keep us posted on the progress.

Thanks for the comments Kyle. This dio is still in progress so there's still a lot of stuff to do like the weathering. I already took notes of the points that you made. I'll try to finish it soon & keep you posted. By the way, I plan to use the banner instead of the CIP panels as I have seen more of these being used by the SF on their Humvees in my reference pictures. Do you know what these banner are called? Thanks again.

Looking good. How was the Hummer? Does it have a good fit? How good are the DML figures? Like phoenix-1 says, add something for the diorama. It looks kinda plain. If you don't like to add vegetation, try making sand dunes and some dark spots on it to show a mortar explosion. Based from the pose of the figures, I guess they have been surprised by the attack. Might as well add a casualty - the driver I guess...

BTW, I though Humvee interiors are olive green/ olive drab?

Shonen, the Hummer have some fit problems that I have to deal with. I already have the stowage stuff that I would add to it. The Dragon figures are good, just have to do some adjustments to them. I plan to add something to the scenery to make it not look plain once I'm done with the model. With regards to the color of the interior, if you visit Major Rob's Motorpool you would find a Hummer with the interiors painted in sand color.
Thanks for the comments.

Panel Marker.....

Quoted Text

This brightly colored marker is a real attention getter. Measuring 6 ft. long by 19½ in. wide. This nylon marker is fluorescent orange on one side and a hot pink color on the other. Each end has 2 tie straps and 3 snaps, and the middle has just the 2 tie straps.

Thanks matt. One question though, how come they used a different color during OIF? Take a look at this picture. Did they cut the marker to make it smaller?

Heres a few pics of a SF op in Iraq using the HUMVEEs they have. Sorry about the clarity on some of them though.
