Here's the text on FB...

"Werner's Wings is pleased to officially announce that Kitty Hawk will release a 1/35th scale UH-1D/H. The first issue will be a Vietnam era version. Future releases will include post-Vietnam and foreign Hueys.

Ray Wilhite and myself have been instrumental in the development of the CAD artwork.

What you see here is an early version CAD. Changes have been made. We are almost there."

The only thing I know about Kitty Hawk is that they and Panda are basically the same company.. or at least related in some way.. Kitty Hawk does aircraft and Panda does AFVs... not sure if the aircraft kits have the same fit problems that Panda's AFV kits seem to have... I sure hope not

Maybe we can ask someone on the aircraft forum.

Panda has done at least 4 UH-1s before. But I don't know if it's the same company as their helo kits have the same product numbers as some of the Panda armour kits.

No, they're not the same company.. the old Hueys are by Panda Models... the new Panda (Kitty Hawk) that does the new AFV's is Panda Hobby.. no relation.

Cheers Hisham,

Dragon overtook at least some of the old Panda moulds for their UH-1 line. I'm really looking forward to these new kits!

They are expected to be ready in the winter/spring of '17. I am really looking forward to these as Kitty Hawk's 1/48 UH-1Y and AH-1Z are awesome kits. These should be too.

Panada/Kitty Hawk seem to be hit and miss when it comes to molds. I have their Marder 1 SPG and some of the molds leave a bit to be desired with how rough they are (bad extruded knockout pins) the overall detail is ok/good, just don't expect a Tamiya or even Trumpeter style experience during assembly. Its going to take a bit more effort to make things fit together properly.

Given what we currently have for options, anything they put out is going to be a major step forward for one of the most iconic helo's in history. Plus the two guys advising them (both frequent posters on ARC) are Huey fanatics. I think this one will be a winner. Just bummed because I really wanted the late version so I could build one of the Huey's I flew in back in the early 90's, right before the Blackhawk replaced them (in my unit).

Wonder if this is part of the rumored 1/35 announcements that kitty hawk is supposed to make at the IPMS Nationals this week. While I am happy to see a new huey I was holding out hope for an Apache,CH46,53e or an Osprey. Since I heard announcments plural maybe there is another surprise to come.

GOOD NEWS, as far as I'm concerned- I'd like to see them also do earlier Hueys, as well.

Myself being first-and-foremost, a 1/48 Aircraft Fan, I can say with some authority that KITTY HAWK DOES do very nice aircraft kits, comparable to the latest TAMIYA and HASEGAWA 1/48 aircraft kits, which are VERY NICE, indeed. TAMIYA's P-47D ("Razorback" and "Bubble Top"), and their P-47M Thunderbolt kits, are considered by experienced aircraft fans to be THE finest P-47s in ANY scale. KITTY HAWK's 1/48 F-35-series kits DO have some fit issues, however...

Having built KITTY HAWK's F-94C "Starfire" kit with NO problems whatsoever, I would go out and buy their new 1/35 UH-1D kit without any trepidation. I have several of their other 1/48 Aircraft kits, albeit as yet, un-built. Having dry-fit many of the parts contained in these other kits, I have every confidence in their successful completion...

I'd purely LOVE to see KITTY HAWK do a 1/35 H-/HH-/UH-34-series of kits, since their UH-1D will be a Vietnam War-era kit. UH-34Ds saw extensive use in Vietnam with the US Marines, and I think that a 1/35 UH-34D would lend itself very favorably to a boatload of Vietnam War dios, along with KITTY HAWK's UH-1D, when used with the excellent BRAVO-6 figure kits...

Well, AFV CLUB have already got their M113 ACAV's "box-art" established, so I'd say it's pretty much a "go". The question is,

"How long will it be before we finally see it..?"

We'll probably have to wait quite a while for the KITTY HAWK Huey, though. It's been nearly TWO YEARS for KITTY HAWK to at least come up with CAD drawings for their upcoming 1/48 F2H Banshee aircraft kit since it was first announced, so I won't hold my breath for the 1/35 Huey. Release-dates are key...

You can also check the "What's New" columns at the Cybermodeller, Modelling Madness, and Hyperscale hobby sites periodically for progress reports on aircraft kits...

David Chou is a guy who gets advance AFV Club kit samples to build them for them, and I kind of got the impression from him - just an impression - that it could be before, or by the end of this year... I hope that's the case.

Well, (their M113 ACAV, that is) that's only four months away, so I guess that's not too awfully bad. I remember when AFV CLUB first announced their M5A1 (Early) Stuart- It didn't reach the hobby shops for FIVE YEARS, and then, it was another TWO YEARS before we saw their M5A1 (Late) hit the shelves. In the meantime, AFV also announced their M8 HMC (75mm Howitzer Motor Carriage), which we NEVER got...

I'm hoping that their M60A3 doesn't take very long, either...

If the fit is anything like the 1/48 kits I have encountered, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Life is to short to endure kits that over engineered and bad fitting.

Which of the KITTY HAWK 1/48 aircraft kits did you build? Just curious...

I understand that their 1/48 F-35A, B, and C kits have issues- I can't comment on these three on a personal experience-level, but as I stated before, I encountered NO problems with my F-94C build...

BTW- How do you like over-engineered 1/35 Armor..?

Why? The current 1/35 UH-1B/C's are extremely well done. If anything, after they get the D/H out of their system, I'd like to get a decent N (the Dragon kit is complete crap) or maybe a short fuselage P-model.

Ultimately, I just want to get a new tool 1/35 AH-1 series.

Off-topic slightly, didn't someone announce a 1/35 MH/UH6 littlebird recently?

Yes, Kitty Hawk as well, check here. The 1/35 AH-6J and MH-6J kits should be out first, around Christmas time. The 1/35 UH-1D/H will be after them.

... but what's people's experiences with Kitty Hawk?

I have not yet built the model, but their Kingfisher has gotten generally good reviews (here is my in box review for sister site Aeroscale).

Not all their offerings have been as well-received, and like most things, it depends on the team behind the project. But given the choice between what's out there now (with all the AM stuff needed to "fix" them) and a new offering from the VN era, I'm ALL IN.
