I would bring to completion an old model of Chieftain of Tamiya, that was stopped many years ago.
My idea is, if possible, to make it as a vehicle of the Iranian army.
Unfortunately I've forgotten all the researches I made at the time of its start.
The kit is sold as Mk-5, but I've seen that this versiont should have a different engine deck, a different arrangement of the rear of the turret (air filters?) and a box (?) on the right side of the turret.
I could make all those modifications (I had nearly completed the device on the rear of the turret) but I would spare work and complete the model just not to waste it, also because there is a much better kit of Takom.
I've read that Iran had Chieftains Mk-3P aside the later Mk-5P.
Can anyone confirm this?
What are the differences between Mk-5, 5P, 3 and 3P?

Hi Massimo,
A good starting point is this tweak list to correct the Tamiya Chieftain kit.
Missing Lynx .
If you want to build an Iranian Chieftain Mk5, you can find an excellent build in the following link:

Good Luck

Hi Raul,
thank you for these excellent links, they are just what I needed.
Seems that the modifications are a must for an Iranian tank.
I modified the engine deck, it came out well; I have already a rough air cleaner for the turret, and I sculpted the inclined visors of the cupola. The large basket, instead, is coming out badly, so I'll make it full of glued-in loads to give strength, and perhaps I'll cover it in some ways.

I do have a document that may well contain this information in my box of Chieftain research but I will need to rummage a bit for it as it is not where I thought it was.
However, it is mostly about British versions so I am not sure how much it says about the 3P. I'm not aware of any reliable published sources covering the Iranian versions but Dick Taylor has written a new one on Chieftain so there may be something in there. Don't think it's out yet though.
