recently, i have bought my first panzertract panther series
and feel very satisfied with this. since i also want panzer iv books, i tried to buy something .
but, i found that there is no panzertracts for panzer iv series.
(of course i know that there is panzertract"4" and it is coming soon panzer tracts 4-3. but there is no "4-1,4-2" ever, for more earlier version,so i felt i need more books)
because my main purpose is to get information about different feature by different ausf version or by different manufactured period or by different factory. (as i can get from panzertracts series),i browsed internet and i found that the best
"substitute goods" for my purpose might "Panzer IV & Its Variants by Spielberger, Walter J."
but what confused me is there seems 2 version.

2. https://www.amazon.com/Panzerkampfwagen-Variants-1935-1945-Spielberger-Military/dp/0764337564/ref=pd_sim_14_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=51CTvRh0CYL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR124%2C160_&psc=1&refRID=HNS2MP71PE9PZBX8Z0GD
what is different this two book? just onething is latest
renewal version or that 2 books are "one set" so i have to buy all of them? and if that two book one set,
is there more book for complete set?
or just that two is all?
and i am also still suspicious if these are best book
for me or not . if there is more better book, recommand
also welcomed
pleae help me.

James, I believe they are the same, with #2 being the latest re-print. Cheers, Tat

As far as I know the 2nd is newer, however I do not know what has been changed.
You may consider also Acthung Panzer series, although the text is in Japanese the drawings are really good and informative:

Amazon says # 1 printed in '98 , 160 odd pages . # 2 printed in 2011 , 300 plus pages , if I looked up the right book series

I stand corrected. #2 is not a re-print. Do read the description and reviews in your link.

The Spielberger books are classics, but new info has come to light since their publication.
Panzertracts upcoming title on the Pz IV Ausf H an J is the first title in their new Pz IV series.

Craig Ellis books on the Pz IV are very usefull as well

The original Spielberger book covered the whole series of tanks, plus the various self propelled guns, ammo carriers, recovery vehicles, etc. but it was rather perfunctory, and the photo quality was poor. The completely revised book concentrates on the gun tanks (the assault guns and tank destroyers are covered in other volumes). The German edition featured new, 1/35th scale drawings by Hilary Louis Doyle, but the English edition resizes them to fit the page, unfortunately.
There was a Panzer Tracts title that covered the Panzer IV tanks in a single volume, but it has been out of print since the 1990's. The new editions will split the series up among three volumes.

Thanks. 5-4's going for ridiculous prices online. Sure hope it gets re-printed.

I agree with Marc B, Craig Ellis 8Wheels-Good series on the Panzer IV are pretty good. I bought two recently (Update #3 and Volume 4) and leaning towards buying another four books from Blurb website where Craig sells them. The books are pricey. Craig recently authored a photo album on the Panzer IV under Peko Publishing which maybe more affordable.
Another book not mentioned so far is the Osprey New Vanguard 39 on the Pzr IV G, H and J authored by Jentz and Doyle. The small soft cover book only covers the long gun versions.

James Dean,
Muller History Facts plans to release three volumes on the Panzerkampfwagen IV. On the forums, there was praise for History Facts volumes on the Stug III. It might be worth keeping an eye out for this future release.
