I am wanting to build a Lee for my next project and have determined through some reviews that the Academy kit is my best bet... as long as it is the later release with the corrected bogeys.
I am having a hard time figuring out a kit number for it. How do I know which one comes with the corrected parts?

As far as I can tell from reviews, the corrected bogies only appear in the M7 Priest and the special Alamein edition of the Grant.

Any new stock should have the corrected bogies. It's been awhile and the corrected kits should be the ones you find. Unless you go to an old LHS that still has stock from nine years ago.
The parts were corrected within 18 months of the initial release. Any new stock you find will have corrected parts.
The kit was released in 2006. Hard to believe it's that old already.

Man, oh man! Did those last 10 years really go by so quickly, or what?
Brett- I AGREE with Steve! At this point, you should be reasonably assured to get the "corrected" Bogie Assemblies in your 1/35 ACADEMY M3 Lee kit. If I were you, I would patronize an on-line hobby shop or mail-order house that enjoys a high turn-over of inventory; that should provide a successful outcome for you in obtaining what you need. How far do you intend to go in PE sets, Metal Barrels, or resin Updates, or are you going to build "straight-out-of-the-box"..?

Thanks guys!
Dennis, usually I am pretty much an out-of-the-box kind of guy, but I am slowly creeping to more after market stuff. I am thinking this one will be even more. I for sure plan on getting a barrel set, and am going to look at other details as well.
Any suggestions?

Sure, Brett! GRIFFON, VOYAGER, ARMORSCALE, and RB MODELS make excellent metal 75mm Main and 37mm Secondary Guns, as well as .30 cal. Machine Gun Barrels for the ACADEMY M3 Lee/Grant. Be aware that earlier M3 Lees had a SHORTER Main Gun than many of the later versions that actually wound up going to war.
VERLINDEN makes a very nice Interior Update in resin and PE, and as far as PE sets are concerned, you can't go wrong with the VOYAGER M3 Lee set. There are numerous Stowage sets in resin that are available from LEGEND, BLACK DOG, BLAST and a few others, and there are also several resin Turret and Commander's Cupola Updates that are available, as well. If you have ebay and PayPal Accounts, you can just type in:
"1/35 ACADEMY M3 Lee", and that will bring up not only many of the same kit that you want to get, but many of the major aftermarket accessories for it, as well.
Feel free to ask questions; there are many of us that will more than happy to help you out...
PS- When using PE, you'll want to "anneal" it first, so that you can make your various "bends" and "angles" easier. "Annealing" is a process where you heat the metal up, making it more pliable. Most PE sets are made of brass or steel. Even though brass is considered to be a "soft" metal, it is brittle, so annealing beforehand will help you out a lot when forming it. The same is true for steel. Use a candle, not a gas range or a portable blow-torch- Saves a lot of headaches. Practice on scrap PE, such as some of the "frets" or "runners", first, so that you can get the "hang of it"...

Thanks again Dennis.
The PE I have worked with has been kit supplied stuff. Some of it, like on the Academy M4A3 with T34 Calliope I am working on, is pretty soft and workable. The PE in the Bronco Staghound I built a few years back, was quite stiff and "springy." So, thanks for the tip on annealing!
I will have a look at the items you mentioned and let you know what I decide to use.
Again, thanks a bunch!
