Aha!! Takom decided to do the US heavy prototypes as opposed to paper panzers. Finally equal time for the crazy American heavies.

Awesome! I will definitely get a T29E3 if they release it before Trumpeter does. I wonder if Takom will ever try to tackle a M103... If they do I'm going to drop my Dragon kit and snatch a Takom one up right away - after they set a definitive release date, of course. Hmm... I wonder if that 155mm barrel I made a design of is marketable...

Well -- there's already the DML T28 and upcoming T95 150mm GMC. And the announced Hobby Boss T29E1 Heavy.

The T28 and T95 are the same vehicle. The "new" 155mm T95 GMC from DML never existed. The T28/95 never mounted a 155mm gun. Only ever a 105mm.

I really like Takom kits, so I'm pretty excited. The artist did a weird job on the T29E3 turret though. The T30 will be nice though, as what I primarily want is a "vanilla" T29 and T30.

Hi Roy, THANKS for the "Heads-UP", and Hi to Mikey, Matt, Steve, and everyone else!!!

I AGREE with Mikey!

Just a little bit of "FYI", intended for those who might not have known:

For those that want an "experimental" (fictitious "what-if"-types of WOT 1946 to whenever?" or actual developmental-type WWII and post-war scenarios), US Heavy Tank which mounts/mounted a 155mm Main Gun, need look no further than the T30. The US T34 Heavy Tank mounted a 120mm Main Gun... Just sayin'...

TAKOM seems to be marketing an already questionable T29E3 (see Matt's post regarding the artist's rendition of the T29E3's Turret) and their T30/T34 "2-in-1" kit, so it remains to be seen how close they actually come in replicating the real articles in 1/35 scale. Mikey's 155mm Barrel just MIGHT come in very handy as a marketable item!

Even though TAKOM has earned a really good reputation for making some of the best plastic kits on the market today, I urge caution on everyone's parts before making any assumptive statements regarding these two new TAKOM kits until we actually see what comes in their respective boxes...

I personally will refrain from making any overly enthusiastic remarks concerning these two new kits until I actually see their parts and/or read "in-box" and "progressive-build" reviews of these models...

I'm happy for everyone who likes the heavies. Glad to see this sort of thing coming out. I just wish the M8 HMC got this kind of love, but it isn't an attention getter on WOT.

I'm happy to have alternatives and I have been generally happy with Takom kits to date. Now I just need an ARL44 JS-6 in plastic and I'm pretty much done with what is on my 1/35 wish list!

Hi, Russ!!!

I would have posted the same thing you just did regarding a new 1/35 M8 HMC, but many readers would have been VERY QUICK in shutting me down; for example, THESE two (paraphrased, because it isn't worth my time to find the EXACT posts), undeserved comments that were leveled at me in the recent past:

"Oh shut up already, Dennis!!!" and,

"There goes Dennis again with his US/Allied WWII crap!!!"

Perhaps an "all-new state-of-the-art" 1/35 M8 WOULD be an "attention getter", if one of the model manufacturers had the stones to actually release one. That old TAMIYA FROG of an M8 HMC is RIFE with inaccuracies and mistakes...

I'll refrain from mentioning OTHER 1/35 WWII US/Allied AFVs and Soft-skinned Vehicles for the same reasons! But it's OK for the manufacturers to pump out Tiger I after Tiger I in 1/35 scale, AD NAUSEAM... Not to offend anyone, but I care NOT ONE IOTA for what that WOT crowd wants. THOSE ARE MY opinions, and I DO have the right to express them.. If you don't like it, TOO BAD!!!

'Nuff said...

If we are basing the quality of the kit off the slightly screwed up box art, we are hitting a new low here.

As for accuracy concerns...if you know some of the people who work for Takom and follow them on Facebook, you'll know that they have had access to the real deal at Benning, which should help with accuracy concerns. I know Trumpeter has been working on their T29 for a long time now and I'm not sure how good their research team has been with actually seeing one in real life vs basing it all off photos and tech drawings.

Not basing it on the art, personally, its just bad art. However, my sniffing around is I don't think they've had access at Benning. Its closed off and a quick check yesterday indicates nobody has been visiting them. I sent Merit/Trumpeter my 400+ photos and measurements back when I found out they were working on it, heaven knows how it translates into the actual kit!

Based on the price of other Takom kits, what price range do you suspect these kits will carry if they come to market?

Those sound interesting for quite a few reasons:

+ Not WW2 german
+ Not a Sherman, M1 or other "done to dead" post WW2 thingy
+ Not yet available in plastic
+ Used in a novel I am just reading to I do have ideas
