My first big scratching project, so far I'm very pleased with it.

After seeing Michael Rinaldi's E-100 I knew I had to make one myself, but instead of re-using the kit turret I scratched this one myself. It is very similar in shape to Rinaldi's turret, however the layout of the hatches etc is very different as I tried to stay with the Tiger II theme a bit more.

The rangefinders are the kit's machinegun mounts re-used, the loaders hatch and the smaller hatch at the back come from a Tamiya Tiger kit, the extraction fan is a part of the kit's extractor fan which I've used to make a new one. The welds are a mix of pyrograph (the armour plate welds), woodfiller (around the roofplate) and Evergreen strip, softened with cellulose thinner and detailed with an exacto (around several items on the roof, the rangefinders etc.)

I ofcourse still have to add a commanders cuppola, the main gun and some other small fittings.

What do you think?

Rick (16 yrs.)

awesome work there mate,

very nice detail on the weld seams.

which end is going to be the front?

the reason i ask is that the front plate should be significantly thicker than the others

cheers

Wow excellent work. I have seen Michael Rinaldi's E-100 Ausf B project, and so far this looks very good. What great concept you have here !

I have always had an interest in "what if" late-war German armor, esp the E-100. Keep sending pics !

Can't wait to see how this comes about !!

Greetz !

Thanks for you comments!

Joe: the side facing you in the fifth picture is the front, the reason for the front plate not being thicker than the rest is because it was 200 mm already, which seems thick enough to me.

Howdy Weebl,

Very impressive. Good shape, and I especially like your hatch work. You say you used "wood filler" for around the roof plate? It looks good as well, but from the pictures it looks like you had a bit of shrinkage. Not being a German Armour expert, I'm curious if those weld seams would be recessed like that? Maybe it's just my old eyes. Other than that silly little nit-pick, the turret looks great!
And, do I take it from your signature that you''re only 16 years old?

can you take some shots of the turret on top of the hull?

i dont normally have much interest in those stupid german things, but as yours is scratchbuilt ill take an exception.

it looks very good for someone of 16, im 18 and im no where near as good at scratchbuilding as you!

cheers

I haven't started on the hull yet, but I have an earlier pic of the hull roofplate with the turret fitted:

Tread: the filler didn't shrink, I just made the welds a bit recessed (maybe a bit too much), I might do something about them.

And yes, you read it right, my age is 16 (not 16 years of modelling experience :-))

Howdy Weebl,

16 huh?....Then I am thoroughly impressed my young lad! You are obviously a talented little bugger. :-) Good on ya!
Oh, and please don't put too much stock in my weld seam observation. Best to check with one of the German Armour 'Guru's' around here first before you even think about changing anything. Those recessed weld seams might have been the latest 'craze' in 1945 Berlin metallurgy circles!
