Considering that they retooled the M10 kit relatively recently, it will be interesting to see what parts will come in this kit and if M36 specific parts will be the same as in the old kit, or also improved somehow.

The M36B2 did not serve in the Battle of the Bulge. It was a postwar rebuild program in which redundant M10 tank destroyers (with twin diesel engines) received new M36 turrets. They were used for military assistance, as the US Army no longer wanted tank destroyers.

The base model M36, as used in the ETO from September, 1944, was converted from the M10A1, which used the Ford GAA engine, and had a different engine deck and exhaust.

Academy has the appropriate engine deck and rear plate from their old M36 kit, but I don't know if it fits the redesigned upper hull they created for their 70th Anniversary M10 kit.

Okay, I now see the box indicates both types (diesel and gasoline) can be built. I really must learn to read! I hope the hull is the revised one from the new M10 kit (not perfect, but much better dimensionally than the one from the '90's). I also hope some attention has been given to updating the turret mold, but we'll have to wait and see.
Since Tamiya decided to do their new M10 with a molded-in diesel engine deck, I don't anticipate that they plan an M36 anytime soon.

Interesting, considering there were no M36's used in the Battle of the Bulge. There were a few M10's, and maybe even fewer M18's.

I've been waiting for this kit to come back. I've read plenty of accounts of how tank destroyers were used in the Battle of the Bulge because they were often the only armor available.

Gary,

The first M36's went into combat in August of 1944. There are a number of pictures of M36's in action during the Bulge fighting. One actually was credited with destroying a Tiger II in the Bastone/St Vith area. While not as common as the M10's they were there.

Tks,
Randy

Nice to know. Does anyone know if the kit comes wit an interior similar to that offered in their older kit? I thought that it was a nice touch, especially on an open-topped AFV.

Probably not, but if you must put crosses on allied armor a few were used in war movies as German tanks.
