What is the purpose of this bar always injecting itself into my Armorama online experience?
My desire, when visiting the Armorama website, is to see the latest posts on the entire site, showing me threads that were started approximately at the same time as the last post I just read is a complete waste of my time and serves no useful purpose that I can see.
Whenever I visit this site I might look at 15 - 20 different threads and having this bar pop up almost every time I return to the forums page is a real inconvience as I have to reset the page to the prior format every time this bar appears.
Perhaps there is some advantage here that I am not seeing but that advantage evades me.

Strange thing there Michael.
I have never seen this banned/info thing. Is it maybe an "options/setup" thing which everyone can personalise?

I believe it is so that you are aware that the list regenerates every 5 minutes (I believe) and so you are not seeing all of the latest threads.

First, it doesn't take you to threads that were started at the same time; it takes you to threads that were last updated (replied to) at approximately the same time as the last thread you viewed.
The idea is that as you are going down the list (starting from the most recent post/reply) and you go to a specific thread, when you return you are brought back to the point you were at when you left the list. That way you don't return to the beginning of the list and have to go all the way through it again in order to get back to where you were.
I think what you are actually frustrated with is that when you navigate back to the list it does not retain whatever filter you had in place (e.g.: my posts, following, etc.). I get around that by holding down the CTRL key when I click on a thread so it opens in a new tab. That way I always have the list of Latest Posts open and the filter doesn't change.
I hope that explanation makes sense.

I am still considering your reply/explanation but no, what frustrates me it that it reshuffles the list so it is no longer in the "latest posts" format, and that it does so almost EVERY TIME I go back to the forums page.
I then have to hit "reset" and wait for the page to redraw so I can only then get back to what I was doing the the first place! When this happen 10 - 20 times in a sitting it gets very aggravating.

Hi Michael,
That's odd. I used to see the same behaviour when I looked at Features, but just checking a minute ago it wasn't doing that - there must be some kind of toggle on/off. I looked at the "latest posts" function (I don't use it normally - I just surf the lists of forums instead) and could not get it to give the banner.
I think the banner was indeed to act as a bookmark that let you see other material added around the same time as whatever you were already looking at, but I found it a real PITA in the Features list - I'm kinda glad it seems to have gone away. Is this something new, or have you always had to deal with this banner?

I would say that for me it started about 30 days ago, roughly.

Hmm. I've never experienced what you are describing. No matter how I filter or navigate the latest posts they always appear in descending chronological order.

Not sure if there is a corrupted cookie or something for you Michael, but yeah it is suppose to sort of hold your place based off the point at which you had last looked at a topic. So..
1. Scrolling down the list and generating several new pages worth of topics.
2. See a post and click to read that.
3. Return to Latest Posts page and get the list from the point at which you last left off. Not the entire page mind you but the topics you last left off with.
4. Continue looking down the list (cause you already looked at the ones above that are now hidden).
5. And if you want to see the list from the start you can click on the refresh link, etc.
But as I said if it's not doing that for you then you might want to clear your cache or cookies as nothing has changed on this code in several years so it sounds like you might have a bad cookie, etc.
And for those of you who don't see this you are likely blocking new cookies yourself and thus not seeing several new features the site supports. Web sites use cookies. It's a thing.
Cheers,
Jim

It's not a corrupt cookie as it happens on both my pc's and my tablet and they get flushed regularly. I hate the thing, it move the topic you just read to the top of the list weather there is a new post or not. It sorts on what you view not whats posted, losing the spot where you were forcing you to scroll back thru what can be pages. On my pc's I always open topics in new windows to stop this behavior, it's more difficult to do on my tablet. It's been going on for a long time so it's not new. It is, however, a useless and annoying feature.

It is the nature of site functionality, that for every user who finds something useful and convenient there is another who finds it an annoying nuisance.
I find the feature useful so I can look back without endless scrolling.

Useless was a bit harsh but the dang thing is annoying, that's why I open all topics in their own window.
