Looking at this photo from a Spanish site taken in Carentan.

Is this a 101st ABN 6 pdr on the carriage MK III but w/o the muzzle brake?

It is at the same location as this photo that definitely has an airborne 6 pdr with the muzzle brake. Notice the same building in both photos. Both are pulled by jeeps.

I'm not sure which photos you're referring to and I don't want to scroll through an entire article written in Spanish trying to find it, but I can tell you that the Americans did use the 6 pounder under the designation "M1 57mm antitank gun." The US used a different gun carriage, but there's every reason to expect that an airborne unit stationed in England could have acquired some guns in the British configuration to replace the 37mm guns they had originally been issued.

If I'm not mistaken, the British modified the 6 lb'er for glider transportation for D-Day - cut down shields and narrowed axle. The US didn't have enough so they had to "borrow" some of the British mods. British 6 lb'ers typically had muzzle brakes. Maybe this is why??

Sorry, I should explain better.
The picture from the Spanish site shows a 6 pdr gun being pulled by a jeep. The wheels seem smaller and the wheel base seems more narrower than the 57mm gun. It doesn't have the lower shield.
It seems to be the British airborne version but lacks the muzzle brake.

Compare with this photo of a preserved example of the 57mm gun.
http://www.panoramio.com/photo/91591230
and this with a Korean 57mm gun.

The tires on the 101st gun don't have the same height as the Korean one.
The picture from the French site is on row 13.

Unfortunately the gun is obscured by shadows but you can see the muzzle brake.
Better photo here.

Take a look at the Wikipedia entry for the British 6 pounder AT gun. It explains that some of the British guns on the narrow, airborne carriage were supplied to the US Airborne divisions for use at Normandy

Sorry, what I'm getting at is, if the first photo is of a 6 pounder on carriage Mk. III, then it should have had the muzzle brake like the other gun in the second picture. So, were some of the 6 pounders provided to the US lacking muzzle brakes or did the Americans remove it themselves? I was hoping someone would look at the pictures and give their opinion if it is a standard 57mm gun which would not have the muzzle brake or if it is indeed a 6pdr on Mk. III carriage. I've blown up the photo and can say that it lacks the lower shields but cannot say if the main shield has the straight top. The 57mm and regular 6 pdr have the wavy top on the gun shield.

Thank you,
Grant

Judging by this picture of the Airborne variant of the 6pdr AT gun, removing the muzzle brake (for whatever reason...) looks to be a no-brainer...

Thank you for your comment, Frenchy.
I wonder why it might have been done. Perhaps the muzzle brake was damaged during landing?

Thank you,

When I look at the first pic you reference I am certain that actually has a Muzzle break and it is obscured by the light reflecting off it not giving a clear definition from the barrel. If you blow it right up you can see some distortion around the end of the muzzle. Effeminately an AB gun though
