Hi guys. I'm doing a T-72B1 in Russian service in the '90s probably Chechen war. The model has a shield on the commander's cupola. I'm guessing its some kind of shield but the bottom half is made of canvas so I don't know what good it is. But I'm going to install some crew figures and it will just get in the way. So would it be historically accurate to remove it?
Also, does the commander's cupola rotate independent of the turret?
Thanks.

For your question about removing the shield that all depends. Some T-72s I have seen in Chechnya have them and some don't.If you are going to build a certain version, just try to find as much info as you can on the one you want to build.

The weathershield is optional. The MG ring mount is fully traversable, that is the part above the bolted ring.
