Dragon type 95 and 97 were about the nicest out of the box kits I have built. No hassles and very nice to put together.

I'd have to go with Tamiya as well in the armor category.I remember when I got my first one: The Ford GPA Amphibian. Being used to lesser quality stuff I was in awe.

Aeroscale? ANYTHING recent from Hasegawa.
BEAUTIFUL fit.

Tasca/Asuka PzIIL 'Luchs'.

Gorgeous little kit straight out of the box.

I have two more to have some fun with...

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Trumpeter KV1 - this is superbly accurate, has the simplicity and engineering of a Tamiya kit abd gives you both rubber band and sagged link and length tracks. At the time it wa released it was half the price of Tamiya/DML/AFV etc kit so also offered Value for money.

Totally agree! I was so impressed by the build, I went out and got the KV2. To this day when I meet newbies at the HS asking which tank to start, I recommend this.

1/35 Trumpeter KV1 1942 model with a new "light weight" cast turret - Pure OOB, pure fun, looks great!

1/35 Takom Chieftain MkV - Only adding antennae, gun thermal cover straps (so characteristic of the Chieftain!)

1/35 Emhar Whippet - I know the tracks are its weakness, but as a pure OOB project - great build!

1/35 Bronco A13 MkII - Went together nicely and only crew figures added

Airfix 1/32 British Crusader III - I didn't get to build the Lee/Grant, but this Airfix Crusader went together well and still looks good today!

1/35 C1 Ariete from Trumpeter - Made for an Armorama campaign, this baby got desert dust as its only 'upgrade'

From a pure fun standpoint I really enjoyed Tamiya's 1/25 Tiger, SU100 and Chieftain.
SU100 was built pure OOB, the Tiger got its solid molded tow cables replaced and I added barrel lagging and antennae to the Chieftain. All kits I "lusted" after in my youth - maybe that explains it! (I even included the motors :-) )

Best as in...??

The best
Hobby Boss M1070 + M1000

The most fun?
Academy M-12 GMC, first model most fun.

The most accurate?
I don't care much about accurate, but IMHO AFV 8.8cm Flak 18.

The most easiest to assemble?
Tamiya 1/35 M-113 FSV

Bryan, I believe they were looking for clarification. Did the poster mean most accurate or ease of construction for best out of box?

Best OOTB means whatever you want it to mean, just so it's built straight out of the box. I wanted to know what you thought was a great OOTB kit.
Take care,
