What makes this boxing an early version if it is the later large engine and longer wheelbase?
Notek light on the prewar schemes??

I believe they are referring to the gun not the truck

Great news. A replacement for the Tamiya kit long overdue. Hope to see other versions based on that chassis.

Tamiya is quite good generally, but lacks definition and detail - the base kits are 70's era remember.
Example: The rear suspension frame is incorrectly shaped, especially the holes and lacks many details like the spring retaining caps and rubber cones, the cable to stop the frames extending too far, etc. The spring is moulded thick, is not hollow and seam line is prominent.

There are no clasp fittings or straps for the ammo boxes, etc, etc.
It is a long list if you want detail.
The Pak 36 could also do with some work.
Etch sets will only fix some detail.
But it is still a shake'n'bake build with Tamiya's legendary engineering quality, so choose your poison. Build Tamiya OOB, or add and etch set and up the cost, then compare that price wise to Bronco's when it comes out.
As to the Bronco kit, I don't mind a high parts count for quality. This one interests me.

Finally an update for the venerable Tamiya kit from, what, 1974? The towed gun doesn't look half-bad either.

I am also looking towards this one with interest. If it is in similar price range as their armored version (40E) then it makes no sense to do all the effort on Tamiya kit. The fact that Tamiya kit was the only game in the town for nearly 45 years only proves its not the most popular machine. But for me, its too strange/ugly to pass
Complexity is another issue. As it will be largely the same as armored version, the amount of small suspension and engine parts is dreading. I like accurate and detailed kits, but sometimes it takes too much time on cleanup, IF parts are designed to simplify molding, and not building. This is important bit in Tamiya kit's. Just imagine cleaning flash on rear suspension arms....and you got 8.

The jack is very ugly ... It is none of the early one or the latest model... Eric ( jack collector )

Well if they did them black in the CAD you wouldn't see the detail on the pulled in button upholstery
Quite a call there Darius. Tamiya are not known for making different variants of the same basic vehicle (as opposed to their reusing just the hull and running gear that is), but they first produced the Protze cargo variant, then re-tooled for the extra sprues for gun tractor later. Obviously they saw they had a market to sell to.
Would you say the SdKfz 222 or 223 armoured cars or the Centurion Tank were not popular vehicles, Tamiya producing the only ones around in decades? Just a friendly pull on your leg here.

Of course they will not be orange, that is only for the CAD system.
The paint diagrams will specify the following colours:
Light pink seats
Dark purple/violet body with white trim (the lines shown as yellowish in the CAD images), there will also be more white trim than shown in the images.
Dark red chassis and wheel hubs, "black" tyres with white side walls.
Nuts/bolts on the hubs will be light blue.
The internal floors will be silver and the running boards will be metallic gold.
Knobs, handles, steering wheel et.c. will be gloss black.
Optional decals for the parade version will include yellow/orange flames with red outlines for the vertical areas inside of the front wheel arches. The flames will seem to be coming out from under the hood/bonnet lid.

Looks like the crew had some bad spicy food and didn't quite make it off the hull to the latrine.
There is an outlet store near me that has a bunch of Lindberg kits, and looking at the pics of the finished models on the boxes makes me a little sick inside. I don't think I could bear building one even to make a paint mule.
