The Soviet role is heavily concentrated on in tales of World War Two, but I always wondered what happened in the eastern part of the USSR, where Hitler never intended to go. Perhaps not much until 1945, but the Russkies couldn't have been unconcerned about the Japanese.

And the Japanese didn't put up much of a fighting in Manchuria in 45. Also the Russians and Mongolians beat them badly in the beginning of the border wars colmenanting at KahLkin Gol. After that they signed a neutrality treaty until 45. At the end of the war they had moved through the Korean pennisula.

They sent many of their Siberian Divisions to the Moscow Front when they realized that the japanese were not going to be a threat.
Don't forget that the USA sent a massive amount of Lend Lease war supplies by sea right next to Japan via Vladivostok. The Japanese were never going to provoke the Russians.
