Hi there

A mysterious title for a build with a difference... :-)

This is to announce Project X - the Experimentals & Prototypes build.

Flitzer and I have been bouncing the idea for this around for a while, and it's planned as an A-UK Super Group Build this Autumn. However, if there's enough interest, we might be able to go Official on the Main Site.

The basic idea is this; Project X will encompass all types of experimental vehicles and equipment. The subjects can be actual prototypes, or have never left the drawing board. The only restriction is that models should be based on bona fide designs - whether historical, present day or from a Sci-Fi source - other than that, the sky's the limit.

What type of kits? The aim of the build is to allow all areas of Armorama - Aircraft, Armour, Figures, Sci-Fi and Warships to be represented.

Models can be in any scale and involve as much or little scratchbuilding as you like. Obviously a lot of prototypes are available as kits - particularly aircraft - but if you want to indulge in some serious "kitbashing", here's your chance.

We're aiming for a September kick-off, to end around Christmas, so announcing this now may seem a bit early, but time has a habit of running away, and it'll give a chance to see if there's sufficient interest to justify suggesting Project X to the Campaign Committee.

Peter has already designed a stunning Campaign Award... a "medal to build for!" (if you'll pardon the pun ).

Start letting your imagination run riot!

All the best

Merlin, I’ve been acquiring more than a few “Luft46” kits lately. Would one of these be acceptable for the campaign? If so, I would have interest.

I'd be interested as long as money isn't an issue for me at that time.

Hi Mike

A Luftwaffe '46 model would be absolutely on the mark! I don't know why, but I can imagine Flitzer will be building something along those lines too!

For myself, it'll probably be a WW2 prototype - the Northrop XP-55 Black Bullet, or the V-173 Flying Pancake look great, but then a Ho229 is rather tempting!

All the best

I will be end if I survive the two current campaigns and one group build. I have a large collection of prototypes and X-planes from the 1920s-30s-40s & 50s.

Count me in. I guess I can hold off on my LHX and JSF's or I'll just get a another kit.

Would the SR-71 count for this?

Hi REMF11M

An SR-71 sounds fine... but a YF-12 would be even cooler!

Have fun

Since the RAH-66 was cancelled, can it be in the Project X?

Hi Shonnen baby....
unless someone says different I'd say the RAH-66 is fine.

Not decided what I'm going to build yet, but am leaning towards the Fw TL Jaeger Entwurf lll by Planet.

Cheers

I'm in. Maybe I should do a Soviet T-72 with triple ERA for their "disinfomatsiya" of US Congressmen...

nah...

I've got so much I could do...I would love to do either a USS Montana (scrapped in the yards) or the proposed 80's New Jersey refit with the Harrier jump ramps but I am not sure I am ready to tackle such a major set of conversions...I guess I have time to work on it.

Hi Jaques

It would be awesome to get some ships in this! The aim has always been to make Project X as inclusive and varied as possible.

I'd like to join. Time allowing I will be building Tamiya's 1/72 Boeing X-32 JSF. That OK?
